Charges Bumped Up Against San Antonio Reporter

Back in early November, FTVLive told you that a blood draw warrant was served on KSAT Reporter John Paul Barajas, after the Reporter refused a breathalyzer or a standard field sobriety test by police.

Barajas was pulled over for going 82 mph in a 65 mph zone. The warrant states an officer saw Barajas’ vehicle drifted out of its lane while approaching another vehicle, and the officer says the vehicle failed to maintain a steady speed.

Barajas refused to submit to a breathalyzer test, and a judge issued a warrant to have blood drawn from Barajas.

The results are back, and prosecutors have toughened the DWI charge against Barajas after lab results showed his blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit or higher.

Barajas was looking at a Class B misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and a $2,000 fine. But, now that the results show a much higher BAC, Barajas a Class A offense, which punishable by up to a year in jail and a fine of $4,000.

FTVLive told you that Barajas was back on the air shortly after his arrest.
