Judge Signs Blood Draw Warrant Served on San Antonio Reporter

A blood draw warrant was served on KSAT Reporter John Paul Barajas, after the Reporter refused a breathalyzer or a standard field sobriety test by police.

Barajas was pulled over for going 82 mph in a 65-mph zone. The warrant states an officer saw Barajas’ vehicle drifted out of its lane while approaching another vehicle, and the officer says the vehicle failed to maintain a steady speed.

“Officer L. Urbanowski advised me upon contacting [Barajas] in the driver seat he noticed a strong odor of intoxicants coming from his breath, slurred speech, and bloodshot eyes,” the warrant affidavit penned by SAPD officer G. Perez reads.

Barajas was arrested shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday morning.

According to the affidavit, Barajas showed several signs of intoxication based on Perez’s investigation, including gauging a 19-second time interval as having taken 30 seconds, as well as and an inability to complete the alphabet. Perez says Barajas recited A through K of the alphabet before saying he forgot the rest.

Perez’s warrant also says Barajas slurred his speech and had an “indifferent” attitude during the exchange. Barajas allegedly refused a breathalyzer or voluntary blood draw, leading officers to seek the warrant which was signed by a Bexar County judge around 3:26 a.m. November 5.

The Graham station did post a story about the arrest of its Reporter. “KSAT12 is aware of an incident regarding one of our employees being arrested for alleged driving under the influence on November 5th, 2023,” said Ashley Parker GM of KSAT. “We ask that you respect the privacy of all involved and refrain from speculation or conjecture.”
