CNN Says Sorry for Entering Massacre Site

A news crew from CNN went inside the gruesome crime scene in Thailand, where 20 children were killed.

The cable news network faced harsh criticism after they entered the daycare where the children were slain and shot video of the crime scene without permission.

The AP reports that the two CNN journalists involved were fined after authorities found that they had been working in the country after entering on tourist visas, but cleared of wrongdoing for entering the daycare center where more than 20 children were killed, deputy national police chief Surachate Hakparn said.

CNN pulled the story and issued an apology.

In a statement, CNN International’s executive vice president and general manager Mike McCarthy said, “We deeply regret any distress or offense our report may have caused, and for any inconvenience to the police at such a distressing time for the country,”

“This was unprofessional and a serious breach of journalistic ethics in crime reporting,” the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Thailand said.
