Signing Off in Syracuse

Longtime WSTM Chief Meteorologist Wayne Mahar announced today he's getting ready to call it a career after 36 years at the Sinclair station.

While doing the obligatory weather live from the New York State Fair, Mahar announced that his time is coming to an end at WSTM.

Mahar said that with his private forecasting business, along with a charity and other obligations, he's been "working about 80 hours a week since I was a teenager." He then added, "I'm 65, about to be 66," and he has decided "it's time to back down a bit."

Mahar also vowed to spend more time with his wife of 46 years. "She's put up with my crazy schedule," he said, adding, "maybe do a little more traveling, see the kids and grandkids, they're out of the area."

Let’s hope that before he announced that he wants to spend more time with his wife, that he checked with her first?

Just saying….

WSTM says that he will not leave the station until some time in December.
