Gone in Pittsburgh

Viewers were wondering where popular WTAE Anchor Kelly Frey has been?

As the November sweeps kicked off, Frey was missing on the anchor desk and now, apparently, she is leaving the Hearst station.

WTAE released this statement on Frey’s absence, “After consideration and discussion over her next contract, Kelly Frey is leaving WTAE Channel 4. Kelly has been an important part of our family and success over the last 21 years. We wish Kelly and her family all the best.”

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review writes that Frey has not responded to inquiries about her absence and has not posted anything to her social media accounts about her absence or departure. She did not respond to messages sent Tuesday seeking comment.

Frey joined the station in 2000 and became a very popular Anchor in Pittsburgh. She publically shared details of her fight against breast cancer and the health issues that came along with it.

While Frey nor the station is giving many details as to her exit, others are trying to fill in the blanks.

Two sources tell FTVLive that her leaving has to do with the COVID vaccine mandate that Hearst is requiring of its employees.

FTVLive has not confirmed that and until either Frey speaks out, or WTAE gives more details, many in Pittsburgh will be left wondering, what happened?
