Is This Why News Nation Went So Soft on Trump?

There is a joke that longtime Journalists often tell, “if your mom says she loves you, get a second source to verify it.”

In other words, a real Journalists questions everything.

Yesterday, FTVLive told you how Nexstar’s News Nation landed an exclusive interview with President Trump and it made no news.

The interview was conducted by News Nation Anchor Joe Donlon, who treated Trump with kid gloves, lobbing him softball questions and letting his factually wrong answers go unchecked.

Some insider Nexstar tell FTVLive that they believe that Donlon was encouraged to go easy on Trump, because if he pissed him off, the campaign would not by ads on News Nation.

But, maybe that wasn’t the case and maybe this was the plan all along, to give Trump a platform, let him say things that were not true, without correcting him or informing the viewers that was not a truthful statement.

Remember back in August when FTVLive told you that Nexstar had brought in longtime media consultant Mackie Morris, to help direct the staff at News Nation?

Going back to a post that Morris made on social media about his directing of the News Nation staff, something now stands out.

It seems the "no challenge to those in power" is baked right into the show's ethos.

As one TV news insider said to FTVLive, “The show that claims to be reviving journalism seems to be the antithesis of journalism.”

He is the post Morris made last month.
