Gone in KC

KSHB General Manager Steve Watt sent a memo to the staff saying that yesterday was his last day at the Scripps station.

Watt is leaving the Kansas City station to become the Director of Sales/Station Manager position at Meredith’s WSMV in Nashville.

Nashville is the 29th market and Kansas City is the 33rd. Seems odd to take a step down in job title just to move up a couple of markets.

Don’t you think?

Anyway, here is the internal memo he sent to the staff and was obtained by FTVLive:

Team,

It is with mixed emotions that I share news of my resignation, effective today. I have accepted the Director of Sales/Station Manager position at Meredith’s WSMV, the NBC affiliate, in Nashville.

Leaving this team and Kansas City is a difficult decision for me. Over the past two years, everyone has graciously welcomed me. I’ve made many new friends, but Nashville is my family’s’ home, and this was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.

I am very proud of all we’ve accomplished together and am amazed at the talent and passion we have here. I have learned a lot from each of you – things that have made me a better leader and person.

Thank you for everything. I am honored to have worked alongside of you.

Today will be my last day in the office. If I don’t get to personally say goodbye, please know it was not my intention.

Ed Fernandez, vice president of Local Media Operations, will be your point of contact while next steps are determined.

All the best,

Steve Watt
