A female Reporter has today just over $30,000 in damages after accusing a former TV reporter of rape in a major #MeToo case in Japan.

Shiori Ito alleges that Noriyuki Yamaguchi raped her after inviting her to dinner to discuss a job opportunity in 2015.

Yamaguchi, who has close links to PM Shinzo Abe, denies wrongdoing and had filed a counter-suit seeking compensation of his own.

But the Tokyo court found in favor of Shiori and ordered Yamaguchi to pay her 3.3million yen (£23,000 or $30,000) in damages to the freelance journalist.

Ito, 30, has become an outspoken symbol for #MeToo in Japan, where the movement against sexual harassment and abuse has been slow to take hold.

She fought back tears as she spoke through a megaphone to reporters and supporters outside the court, saying she felt 'full of gratitude.'

Is it me, or does $30 grand not seem like nearly enough?
