And This is Why You Don't Trust the Scanner

For years it was a big no-no in Journalism to report information that you heard on the scanner. 

Now, it seems that many news outlets have thrown that rule out the window. Often times you will see news outlets report scanner traffic stories on their social media. The chance of giving out bad or wrong information by doing this is very high.

Case in point, here is what Newsweek tweeted out yesterday as a shooting at the YouTube campus was happening:

In the end, 3 people were shot a total of 4 people were taken to the hospital. That's a far cry from 37. 

Reporting scanner traffic is irresponsible and it is something a true Journalist should shy away from doing.
