End of An Era in LA

By all accounts, Steve Edwards had an amazing run in LA television.

He was on the air since the 80's, basically worked at every station in the market and many people in LA grew up to Steve Edwards.

Since the 90's he has been the face of KTTV's morning show. Other Anchors have come and gone but Edwards was the one constant. Each morning he was on the air, telling viewers the news and some bad jokes.

Yesterday, Edwards was let go from the station. KTTV owner Fox Television would not say anything, other than to confirm what FTVLive FIRST reported that Edwards was no longer working at the station.

Newsroom sources told FTVLive that sexual harassment claims factored into Edwards being ousted from the station.

Fox did not confirm that.

Of course, social media blew up with the news and all kinds of rumors. High profile Anchors in the public eye are used to it and know that people will talk.

But, this time it's different, this time it is rumors about a person that many people in LA feel like they know personally, even if they never met the man.

Good Day LA was never better than when Dorothy Lucy and Jillian Barberie sat alongside Steve Edwards. That's when the show had its best run, that was the sweet spot.

"Shocked," was the word that Dorothy Lucy told FTVLive when she found out Edwards was gone.

Rumors started circulating on social media that it was Edward's inappropriate conduct as to the reason that Barberie left the show.

Barberie also went on Twitter to say that Edwards was not the reason she left.

With KTTV's owner not saying anything, people will continue to try and fill in the blanks. Some might be right, others could be way off.

FTVLive talked to people inside the KTTV newsroom and emotions are mixed. Some are very sad, others say good riddance.

But, that reaction is no different than most TV newsrooms. Think about it, if your main Anchor got sacked Today, it's a good bet that many in the newsroom would be sad and others will be saying, "it's about damn time."

That is the nature of the industry.

It is also a good bet that we will never know what happened at KTTV? What did it take for Fox to fire a legend in LA television without warning?

Some people think it must have been really bad for Fox to just dump such a longtime Anchor like that. Others think, Fox wanted to get Edwards high salary off the payroll and was looking for anything they could hang their hat onto.

Is Steve Edwards the latest man to fall in the #MeToo moment?

The only thing we know for sure is it is a sad day for LA television.

It's just we don't know who to feel sad for?
