Legendary Pittsburgh Weatherman is Dead

Some sad news from the Burgh....
Joe DeNardo, a broadcasting legend in Pittsburgh died yesterday after battle with lung cancer.
DeNardo was the longtime Weather Anchor at WTAE and was so big at the station that the weather segment at the Hearst station was called the "DeNardo Weather Watch" even if some other meteorologist at the station was doing the weather. Even after Joe left the station, the weather segment was still slugged the "DeNardo Weather Watch."
Joe DeNardo was a legend in and his Pittsburghese forecasts of “partly clahdy” with “shars” and wisecracking banter with anchorman Paul Long entertained generations of viewers.
In a typical on-air exchange, Paul Long asked, “Joe, will I be able to play golf this weekend?” "Probably not, Mr. Long. You never could play golf before,” DeNardo would reply.
So authoritative was Mr. DeNardo’s forecasts that WTAE promoted its chief meteorologist with an ad campaign in the 1990s. On black billboards, white letters stated simply, “Joe Said It Would.”
Joe DeNardo was 87 years old.
