WECT (Wilmington) has come up with an original idea for their newscasts.....you know...if it was 1982.
The station announced that they are going to take their newscasts on the road in a segment called Highway 6 (WECT is Channel 6 in case you didn't know).
The WECT anchor team will leave the studio and broadcast morning, midday and evening newscasts live in different locations throughout the summer.
The first Highway 6 stop is Friday, June 22 in Surf City.
"We felt it was important to visit the communities that we serve and spend some time with viewers, community officials, and business owners in person and in their elements," says WECT General Manager Mark Mendenhall. "Over the last few years, we've done meet and greets throughout the Cape Fear Region, but doing actual live remote broadcasts takes it to a different level. It's exciting for us and the communities that we will be in."
WECT will start early in the morning in Surf City at Daddy Mac's Beach Grill. The Carolina in the Morning anchor team will broadcast from the restaurant's oceanfront deck. The owners of the popular eatery are opening early to accommodate the live broadcast along with any early risers who want to come out and meet the news team.
At noon, the WECT Midday team will be live along the ocean.
The evening newscasts will air from the largest venue — the Surf City Park.

"We're proud, invested and committed to collaborating with the Raycom team in putting on our best face, 'paving the way' for their next Highway 6 broadcasts."
Dose anyone else get the feeling that some ad dollars are involved in all this?
