Non-Competes Passes the Utah House

A bill that would ban non-competes in Utah has passed the House and now makes its way to the Senate.

TV ownership groups have been speaking out loudly against the bill that will no longer let them control their employees after they leave the station.

The amended bill would ban noncompete clauses entirely for television workers who earn less than $47,500 a year. For others, noncompete clauses would be limited to the term of contracts. For example, reporters who have a three-year contract could switch stations immediately at the end of it — giving them more negotiating power.

While the bill passed the house, a look up into the photo gallery showed that not a single station sent a crew to cover the story.

Guess management doesn't like the idea of covering the news when they lose.

Let's hope the Senate passes the bill, it becomes law and other states do the same.
