Sacramento Sports Anchor Battling Leukemia

Some sad news out of SacTown.

Longtime KTXL Sports Anchor Gary Gelfand is battling lekemia and it's not the first time.

Gelfand has been missing from the station's air for weeks and now we know why. He was diagnosed with leukemia several weeks ago and is now undergoing treatment.

The Sacramento Bee writes that Gelfand was previously diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in 2009, according to a Lincoln golf tournament established in his name, but returned to air after the cancer went into remission.

KTXL is asking viewers to register with Be The Match to increase Gelfand’s odds of finding a viable bone marrow donor, the next step in his treatment.

Gelfand has reported out of Sacramento since 1996, aside from a two-year break anchoring CNN Sports Illustrated in Atlanta.

FTVLive wishes him nothing but the best.
