NBC fired Matt Lauer 5 weeks ago for inappropriate behavior and Lauer's longtime co-anchor is finally weighing in.

It took Katie Couric 5 weeks to say that she did not know that Lauer's behavior was happening.

Talking to People Magazine, Couric said, “The accounts I’ve read and heard have been disturbing, distressing and disorienting and it’s completely unacceptable that any woman at the Today show experienced this kind of treatment."

“I had no idea this was going on during my tenure or after I left,” she continued. “I think I speak for many of my former colleagues when I say this was not the Matt we knew. Matt was a kind and generous colleague who treated me with respect. In fact, a joke I once made on late-night television was just that, because it was completely contrary to our brother-sister relationship. It’s still very upsetting. I really admire the way Savannah [Guthrie] and Hoda [Kotb] and the entire Today show staff have handled a very difficult situation.”

The joke she was referring to was one she made on Bravo TV in 2012, asked what Matt Lauer’s most annoying habit was, Couric replied, “He pinches me on the ass a lot.”

The question is why did it take Couric 5 weeks to say that she didn't know anything was going on? Why would you have not said it day one?

It appears that Couric was looking to craft a statement that would play well on both sides and also waited to see if anyone else stepped forward with even more stories.

I'm sorry, but I think Couric knows more than what she's saying.
