KSTP Anchor/Reporter Chris Egert had a portion of his leg amputated yesterday.

Egert, who has been at the station 5 years, says he was battling a lot of pain in his left foot.

“Battled chronic ankle sprains as a child, and into my adolescent years as a high school and college athlete,” Egert told the Orlando Sentinel. “Then as an adult we tried nine different surgeries to help with mobility and severe pain. Infection set in during the last round of surgeries that started in August — and it became clear that amputation was the best of all remaining bad options.”

He said that he will be fitted with a prosthetic in three to fourth months, and he will return to the KSTP anchor desk in four to six weeks.

He thanked colleagues for being supportive and covering his shifts.
