Watch BriWi Spin a Whopper to Tim Russert

Back in 2005, NBC's Brian Williams was sitting down with the late Tim Russert and talking about his helicopter incident in Iraq.

In this tale, Williams said he watched the RPG pierce the tale of the chopper in front of his. But, then he claims the pilot of his chopper — “our captain” — was shot “right through the earlobe.”

“The captain of Williams’s helicopter Chris Simeone, has stepped forward and said he was neither struck by enemy fire nor received a Purple Heart. ‘I do not have a Purple Heart, and my ears are just fine,’ Simeone said.

Allan Kelly, an Army pilot also aboard Williams’s helicopter said the same thing: that their chopper did not come under enemy fire.

Watch the video see just how good BriWi could lie:

Jon Stewart to Step Down from The Daily Show

While the news was breaking that "real" News Anchor Brian Williams was going bye bye. "Fake" News Anchor Jon Stewart is also signing off.

After 17 years, Stewart told his studio audience that he will step down later this year.

“Seventeen years is the longest I’ve ever in my life held a job — by 16 years and 5 months,” the comedian said. “In my heart, I know that it is time for someone else to have that opportunity.”

“This show doesn’t deserve an even slightly restless host, and neither do you,” he went on.

Sources said discussions were under way to determine when Stewart would leave, with September a possibility, to coincide with the start of the fall TV season.

Which would be just about the time Brian Williams is set to return to NBC.

It will be an interesting time to say the least.

Here is video of Stewart announcing he is leaving:

Is Jon Stewart Headed to NBC?

At the same time that NBC was announcing that Brian Williams was being suspended for 6 months, Jon Stewart was announcing to his studio audience that he was leaving the Daily Show.

A year ago, no one would have thought that the two stories could be related. But, that was before word leaked that NBC approached Stewart about doing Meet The Press.

There is no doubt, yesterday many of you at least thought, "is Jon Stewart taking over for Brian Williams?"

On one hand it seemed so farfetched, on the other hand you thought, "holy shit, this might really happen."

When you step back and look at it, there is no way NBC is going to replace Brian Williams with Jon Stewart (right?).

But, could Matt Lauer replace Brian Williams and Jon Stewart replace Matt Lauer? Now that, seems like a possibility.

The Stewart/Williams stories may not be related in any way, shape or form.

But admit it, you're still thinking they can be.

Aren't you?

Suspect Arrested in the Shooting of San Diego Sports Anchor

FTVLive FIRST told you that KFMB Sports Anchor Kyle Kraska has been shot near his home.

The San Diego Police Department received reports of a shooting in the 12000 block of Avonette Court shortly after 3 p.m. When officers arrived on scene, they found neighbors -- including a nurse -- giving aid to Kraska, who was then transported to Scripps La Jolla Hospital.

The incident began when shots were fired into the rear window of Kraska's Mercedes. His car then appeared to pull out of his driveway and the confrontation spilled into the street in front of Kraska's home. At that time, another round of gunshots were heard.

Police say that the suspect, Mike Montana then took off in a white van. Late yesterday evening, police located Montana, who surrendered to authorities after a standoff in El Cajon just before 10 p.m.

The surrounding homes around the suspect's neighborhood were evacuated during the standoff. Montana was wearing jeans, a dark sweatshirt and a beanie as he surrendered with his hands up to SWAT officers.

Doctors say that  Kraska suffered gunshot wounds to his leg and the left side of his stomach.

KFMB reported last night that Kraska was out of surgery, and his prognosis was good.

Still Going in Indy

On January 1st, WISH-TV in Indianapolis lost their CBS affiliation and many inside and outside wondered what that meant for the future of the station?

Well it's hard to tell in just one month, but in January, WISH scored was No. 2 in ratings for 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. time slot, according Nielsen Media Research.

While WISH’s 3.8 rating was far behind market leader WTHR, which recorded an 11.1, it was ahead of WXIN (3.6), WRTV (2.7) and WTTV  (2.1).

In the 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. slot, WISH came up No. 3 in local TV news. WISH’s 2.2 rating, according to Nielsen, was behind WTHR’s 5.5 and WXIN’s 3.0, but ahead of WRTV’s 1.4 and WTTV’s 0.5.

Interestingly, WISH’s 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. newscast earned a household rating of 1.8, while CBS This Morning earned a 1.3 during that time in this market, according to Nielsen.

WISH now starts its late news at 10 p.m., and with a 2.0 rating, trails WXIN, which scored a 5.4 in that time slot during January.

WISH is clearly hurt by a lack of a network prime-time lead-in show as it ranks No. 5 behind all its competitors during the 11 p.m. news slot. At 11 p.m., WTHR scored a 6.4 rating, WTTV benefitted from strong CBS lead-in programming to score a 3.2, WXIN had a 2.6 and WRTV a 2.5. WISH recorded a 1.7, according to Nielsen.

So while the future of the station is still up in the air, it clearly has hope that it can work.

Brian Williams to be Suspended for 6 Months Without Pay

Screen Shot 2015-02-10 at 8.07.57 PM.png

NBC is going to stick with Brian Williams on Nightly News, but they have told the star Anchorman that he is being suspended for 6 months.

Here is the internal email that News President Deborah Turness sent to the staff:

All,

We have decided today to suspend Brian Williams as Managing Editor and Anchor of NBC Nightly News for six months. The suspension will be without pay and is effective immediately.  We let Brian know of our decision earlier today. Lester Holt will continue to substitute Anchor the NBC Nightly News.

Our review, which is being led by Richard Esposito working closely with NBCUniversal General Counsel Kim Harris, is ongoing, but I think it is important to take you through our thought process in coming to this decision.

While on Nightly News on Friday, January 30, 2015, Brian misrepresented events which occurred while he was covering the Iraq War in 2003. It then became clear that on other occasions Brian had done the same while telling that story in other venues. This was wrong and completely inappropriate for someone in Brian’s position.

In addition, we have concerns about comments that occurred outside NBC News while Brian was talking about his experiences in the field.

As Managing Editor and Anchor of Nightly News, Brian has a responsibility to be truthful and to uphold the high standards of the news division at all times.

Steve Burke, Pat Fili and I came to this decision together. We felt it would have been wrong to disregard the good work Brian has done and the special relationship he has forged with our viewers over 22 years.  Millions of Americans have turned to him every day, and he has been an important and well-respected part of our organization.

As I’m sure you understand, this was a very hard decision. Certainly there will be those who disagree.  But we believe this suspension is the appropriate and proportionate action.

This has been a difficult time. But NBC News is bigger than this moment. You work so hard and dedicate yourselves each and every day to the important work of bringing trusted, credible news to our audience. Because of you, your loyalty, your dedication, NBC News is an organization we can – and should - all be proud of. We will get through this together.

Steve Burke asked me to share the following message.

“This has been a painful period for all concerned and we appreciate your patience while we gathered the available facts. By his actions, Brian has jeopardized the trust millions of Americans place in NBC News.  His actions are inexcusable and this suspension is severe and appropriate.  Brian’s life’s work is delivering the news. I know Brian loves his country, NBC News and his colleagues. He deserves a second chance and we are rooting for him.  Brian has shared his deep remorse with me and he is committed to winning back everyone’s trust.”

NBC Expected to Resolve Brian Williams Controversy Tomorrow

It appears that Tomorrow is D-Day at 30 Rock when it comes to Brian Williams.

Word is that NBC brass is going to make their decision as to Williams future sometime tomorrow.

The NY Daily News writes that Williams could lose his job, be slapped with a lengthy suspension or even return to the broadcast with a more heartfelt, honest — and specific — apology than the one he offered last week, according to sources.

Williams met with NBC/Universal CEO Steve Burke at Burke's apartment Today.

NBC News officials declined to comment on the matter, but it seems likely we will know much more tomorrow.

Stay tuned....

Philly Anchor's Lawsuit Against Fox O&O Over N-Word Moves Forward

Philly Anchor's Lawsuit Against Fox O&O Over N-Word Moves Forward

Philly.com writes that A reverse racial-discrimination suit that involves use of the N-word filed by a white, former Philadelphia news anchor may finally be heading to a federal courtroom.

Tom Burlington, an award-winning TV reporter, claims he was fired by WTXF Fox29 for using the N-word -- without malice -- during a newsroom meeting, while black employees were not punished for using the same word at the station.

The case has been delayed multiple times. Days before it was supposed to go to trial in January 2011, attorneys for Fox successfully argued that the case should wait until the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on a similar case. The court ruled in favor of that plaintiff two months later, but Burlington’s suit continued to languish for four more years.

We're Sorry...

CNN actually put up this banner, which had many on social media on elsewhere shaking their head.

In CNN's world, if the insurgents in Ukraine’s east are “pro-Russian,” those forces that oppose the fracturing of that nation must be “pro-U.S.” At least, that was how CNN framed the conflict in Ukraine in a report on Monday.

That is hardly the case and now CNN's Carol Costello has apologized for the error:
