I Think I just Threw Up in my Mouth

Wednesday, FTVLive told you how TV stations lie to viewers every Christmas Eve as they start tracking Santa and telling viewers where the fictional elf is right now.

KSN took that a bit over the top with their Santa report and some real bad acting:

It is an annual tradition on television here in Wichita - KSN Chief Meteorologist Dave Freeman begins tracking Santa Claus starting during the 5 PM newscast as well as at 6. The best performance, as always, is saved for the late news - with the emphasis of getting the kids to bed.

That is One Shitty Christmas Gift

Most teens are hoping for a new iPhone, a laptop or a car for Christmas.

Teenage girls have no problem with gift cards to the mall, but one Nashville teenager got what amounted to a lump of coal.

Thanks to her Mom, 15 year old Darby Malone got some cheap promotional TV station slippers from WSMV in Nashville.

The station covered the story after cleaning out the closet back in promotions and you can just tell that Darby is like WTF?

Let's go to the video:

Whose Body is that?

WJAX/WFOX in Jacksonville is promoting that they are getting ready to air their annual show that looks back at the local sports year returns this week.

The Best of 2014 show will be televised on the station and they posted a promo on the station's website.

But, it appears that some photoshop was used to get Sports Anchor Dan Hicken in the picture. Hicken is the guy in the middle of the photo and it clearly appears that his face was photoshopped onto someone else's body in the picture.

One staffer coyly asks, "Is that the body of a recently fired employee that Hicken's head is sitting on?"

CNN's Lemon Tops the List of the Worst

The Columbia Journalism Review is out with their worst journalism list for 2014 and when it comes to TV news, Don Lemon tops the list.

CJR writes, as one of the most recognizable anchors on CNN, Don Lemon has helped lead the cable network’s coverage of the biggest stories of the year. Live television is exceedingly difficult to produce, of course, but Lemon’s gaffes this year offer a case study in how to choose words wisely — or not.

On March 20, he asked guests whether Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 could have been swallowed by a black hole: “I know it’s preposterous, but is it preposterous?” He later compared spanking children to training dogs and probed similarities between the release of US Army POW Bowe Bergdahl and the Showtime series Homeland. When an alleged Bill Cosby rape victim appeared on his show on Nov. 18, he lectured, “You know, there are ways not to perform oral sex if you didn’t want to do it…Meaning the use of teeth, right?” Less than a week later, as protests turned violent in Ferguson, MO, he described the scene: “Obviously, there’s a smell of marijuana in the air.” Lemon’s job isn’t easy.

Can't wait for the CNN promo, "Our Don Lemon is the Best of The Worst."

CNN Caught Flatfooted with FTVLive Exclusive

Yesterday, FTVLive broke the news in an EXCLUSIVE story that Alisyn Camerota will be replacing Kate Bolduan on CNN's New Day early in the new year.

Camerota has been filing in on New Day since Bolduan left on maternity leave and she is now getting the job full time.

When FTVLive broke the news, just two days before Christmas, the news traveled fast both inside and outside CNN.

The PR Department was getting a number of calls wanting CNN's reaction to FTVLive's story and to see if the network would confirm the news?

Problem was, the CNN suits were nowhere to be found, already gone on Holiday break.

Calls were made back and forth to Execs on vacation asking how they wanted to handle the FTVLive story?

CNN planned on making the announcement of Camerota for Bolduan just after the New Year, now there is talk about moving the announcement up to next week.

Time will tell as to what they have decided, but you can bet if CNN was going to give FTVLive a Christmas gift, it would be a big old lump of coal.

Explosion at Orlando Anchor's Home

Former WESH (Orlando) Anchor Martha Sugalski is sitting out a one year non-compete before she heads across the street to WFTV.

And while she isn't anchoring right now, the news is still coming to her.

Sugalski was hosting a Christmas party at her home, when explosion shook the house.

A gas leak sent fire coming out of a fireplace in the living room.

The blast devastated her triplets' nursery, but luckily no one was injured.

"All that matters is the babies," Sugalski said Tuesday afternoon. "We had guardian angels, thank God. What a way to start a party."

And they did go ahead with the party, the former anchor told the Orlando Sentinel.

"The fire department said the house was safe," she said. "My husband had planned the party for months. We had Santa, carolers and the doctor who delivered the babies. Are you going to say no to Santa?"

Although she refuses to comment on where she is headed, Sugalski starts at WFTV on August 6th of next year.

Christmas Eve, the Day Newscasts Lie to Viewers

Christmas Eve is the one day that almost every station with a news department lies to the viewers.

It will usually start to happening in the evening newscasts and by the late news, everyone is in.

Just wait till the Anchors turn to the Weather person and they start talking about Santa. "It's nasty out there Bob, is Santa going to be able to make it tonight?" Or some other lame question that involves the local weather.

At that point the Weather Anchor will tell you where Santa is using the NORAD tracker or some other thing he/she has come up with.

After the weather segment the commercial break will run with a likely promo about how "WBIG News is the most trusted and honest station news organization in the valley."

Then it will be back for sports, another break and then return for a last look at where Santa is right now?

So much for trusted and honest.

Tampa Station Hires New News Boss

Back on October 17th, FTVLive told you that WFTS News Director Bill McFarland and Assistant News Director Michele Murray were both canned at the Scripps Tampa station.

FTVLive told you at the time that KSHB (Kansas City) Assistant News Director Matt Brown was being brought in to act as interim News Director while station searches for replacement.

Well the search is over and Brown is the interim no more.

The Scripps station has finally named Matt Brown as the new News Director.

“Matt has recently been the interim News Director here at ABC Action News. He has already made a great impact on the recent success of the station,” said Vice President and General Manager Nick Nicholson. “I am confident his leadership abilities will help ABC Action News continue to be the best choice for local news in the bay area."

“I’m impressed with a station so committed to quality, local journalism and excited to lead such a passionate and talented group of journalists serving our Bay area audience each and every day,” said Brown.

Seriously.....do people really talk like that?

Big Market Leap

Word is that KQTV (St. Joseph, MO) morning Anchor Christina Watkins is leaving the station.

Watkins is making a big market leap from St. Joe to Charlotte, NC to be a weekday morning Reporter/Weekend Anchor at Time Warner Cable station in town.

She had been at KQTV for the past year and a half. She's two years out of school, graduating from Florida International University in Miami in 2012.

Movie Mogul Wants Today Show to Say Sorry

Yesterday, FTVLive told you that Actress Amy Adams' Today Show interview was scrapped when she refused to answer questions about the Sony Hacking scandal.

That is not sitting well with Hollywood heavyweight Harvey Weinstein.

The movie mogul is pushing NBC for a formal apology over the way Adams was treated at Today.

Adams was in the “Today” green room when a producer said, “This is a news show,” and she would be asked about Sony.

A source said, “Amy said she didn’t feel comfortable talking about people who are her friends. Then a junior producer said her appearance had been canceled.

Page Six says that even though “Today” host Matt Lauer tried to smooth things over after the drama with a call to Weinstein, the source added, “Weinstein wants a formal apology or at least an independent investigation into what happened by an independent authority like Rudy Giuliani.”

A Weinstein Company rep said, “We hope NBC will apologize to Amy, and that in hindsight, they would have handled the situation differently.” NBC declined to comment last night.

WTF Are you Talking About?

During a sold-out performance of former View host Joy Behar’s one-woman show “Me, My Mouth & I”  the comic was gabbing about “The View” when a heckler called out Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s name.

Behar laughed and declined to talk about her right-wing former co-host until the very end of the show, when she talked about regrets: “A regret? After 16 years on national TV, I didn’t turn to Elisabeth Hasselbeck and say, ‘What the f--- are you talking about?’ ”

Naturally, the crowd went wild.
