Reporter that Asked Anderson Cooper for a Selfie is Fired

A Reporter that kept asking Anderson Cooper to take a picture with, has lost his job.

Vandon Gene, a Sun News Network Reporter was scolded by Cooper Wednesday after repeatedly asking the CNN anchor for a selfie near the Ottawa shooting scene.

The anchor refused, and told Gene to “have a little respect for what happened here today.”

“I will not take a photo with you on a day where someone was killed. It seems wildly inappropriate,” Cooper said during the exchange.

The Reporter then went on a Twitter rant against Cooper for not taking a picture with him.

After it was all said and done, Gene did not get his picture with AC and he lost his job.

Sun News executive producer Matt Wolf apologized to the Cooper on behalf of the network, and announced Thursday that Gene doesn’t work for them anymore.

Gene then went on Twitter with this:

Here is video of Cooper responding to Gene's request for a photo:

Thought would share this with everyone. Anderson Cooper really shows his character and respect he has for people. Today was terrible tragedy in Ottawa and Anderson captured it in his words. Click here for my channel.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ok39ssf2AOI&list=UU-LVvJHjTKOwbOclCIEYEmw

CNN Anchor Says She's Sorry for Laughing at the Palin's

CNN Anchor Carol Costello got a good chuckle out of the Bristol Palin audio tape that was released.

But now Costello says she's sorry for laughing and making it fun of it.

The audio was a Palin describing an alleged altercation at a party in Wasilla, Alaska. In the tape, Palin is heard describing what happened to her after she confronted someone she accused of pushing her sister. Palin drops a number of profanities on the tape.

After the tape aired on CNN, Costello said “the long bleep was my favorite part.”

Now, after getting all kinds of criticism, Costello says she's sorry.

"Over the past few days I have been roundly criticized for joking about a brawl involving the Palin family. In retrospect, I deserve such criticism and would like to apologize," Costello said in a statement to Politico.

CNN has not commented on the matter.

Alaska TV Station Runs Wrong Political Ad

A controversial campaign ad that was pulled, still ended up airing on KTVA (Anchorage) and the station says it was their mistake.

The ad for  U.S. Sen. Mark Begich had been pulled by his campaign because it had sparked outrage.

The AP says that Begich ran the commercial during Labor Day weekend. It attempted to portray Begich's Republican opponent, former Alaska Attorney General Dan Sullivan, as soft on crime.

The commercial featured a man identified as a former Anchorage police officer standing outside the home where an elderly couple was beaten to death and a family member sexually abused in 2013. It ended with the man saying Sullivan shouldn't be a senator.

Sullivan responded with his own commercial, accusing Begich of trying to use the case for political gain.

The suspect wasn't named in Begich's ad, but Sullivan's commercials did when he said he "personally put criminals away for life, and that's exactly where Jerry Active belongs." Active is scheduled for trial the week of Dec. 8.

The ad was not supposed to air, but KTVA did air the spot in one of their newscasts.

"One-hundred percent our error," said Andy Tierney, the national sales manager for CBS affiliate KTVA. Tierney said the commercial mix-up came as an operator put in the wrong code for a different Begich commercial into the station's computer system. The two ads have similar codes, and the wrong one was put in.

"It was complete operator error on our part," Tierney said. "The Begich campaign had nothing to do with it."

Of course, this is the same station where the "Fuck It" Reporter quit on air after she announced that she was the head of a Cannabis Club. Maybe she left some product back by where the commercials are loaded.

Just saying....

Hartford Reporter Was A Love Child Before a Daughter

For nearly half of her life, she was known as Kara Hewes. But WFSB personality Kara Sundlun, knew that wasn't who she was.

In 1975, her then-expectant and unwed mother, Judy, was abandoned by Sundlun's biological father, the late former Rhode Island governor and wealthy businessman Bruce Sundlun.

Raised by her mother and adopted by her onetime stepfather, John Hewes, a 17-year-old Sundlun (she legally took her father's name after the reconciliation, ) who had struggled with her identity, a childhood suicide attempt and counseling, finally decided to legally and very publicly force her biological father to acknowledge her as his daughter and pay her college costs.

An out-of-court settlement started what would become a fairy tale-like story of a father and daughter reunited amidst a backdrop of Newport society, politics and celebrity. Sundlun's book "Finding Dad: From "Love Child" To Daughter" is the tale of a teenager's determination to establish a relationship with her father, and their eventual reconciliation and shared love and family. Featuring a forward by Sundlun friend, former WFSB personality and MSNBC's "Morning Joe" co-anchor Mika Brzezinski, the book is scheduled to be released on Nov. 11, Veteran's Day, in part as a homage to Bruce Sundlun, a celebrated World War II bomber pilot who died in 2011.

"People had suggested I write a book or have a movie made about our story. And inside, there was always a part of me that wanted to write it but I didn't know how I would find the time. But he was my dad and it was a story written for me and my dad. The intention was to let people know it is never too late to empower yourself, to make amends, to find forgiveness," said Sundlun.

And of course, my book comes out in November ratings, who could have added.

OMG! Please Make Him Stop

MSNBC's vast wasteland of a hire, Ronan Farrow sat down with Malala Yousafzai, the youngest winner ever of the Nobel Peace Prize.

So, what did Farrow ask the young girl that was shot in the face by the Taliban and proceeded to speak out for the voiceless?

Let's go to his Twitter feed:

Needless to say the twitterverse was not real impressed with Farrow and his interview:

How Much Are Stations Getting for Political Ads?

Politicians love buying ads during newscasts. They feel that if someone is watching the news, they are more than likely to vote compared to someone that is watching Honey Boo Boo, or some other stupid reality show.

That is the main reason TV stations have been adding newscasts, to rake in the political dollars.

But just how much money are they making per spot?

A political ad on WSIL (Carbondale, IL) late local newscast gets $425 for a 30 second spot.

That very same ad on KTVI's (St. Louis) late newscast will get $1,800 for a 30 second ad.

Again, that same ad on WMAQ's (Chicago) late newscast will pull in $3,200 bucks.

That means, WMAQ is making around $50,000 in political ad sells in just one of their newscasts.

In other words, you need to go ask for a raise.

Just saying.....

Nexstar to Buy Phoenix Station That No One Wants

Nexstar Broadcasting is paying $68 million bucks for a Phoenix station that no one apparently wanted.

Nexstar is buying KASW, a CW station that has bounced around from Belo to Gannett to Sander to Meredith as its owner.

The station does not have a news operation and it is likely that Nexstar will not bring one to the station.

So, in other words, who cares about this story.

Not me.

CBC Shows How to Cover Fluid Breaking News

Watching the coverage of the shooting at the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa, was a refreshing look at some good journalism.

Tuning into Canadian TV during a big news event, should be required viewing for aspiring journalist here in the States.

Watching CBC anchor Peter Mansbridge handled the breaking news was a breath of fresh air, compared to Don "Blackhole" Lemon, John "They Got Him" King and the other wild speculators at CNN.

Watch the clip below in which Mansbridge clearly explains the lack on information available without resorting to the type of wild speculation so often seen on American cable news.

Note the calm tone and lack over loud, overly confident graphics as Mansbridge warns against following scurrilous rumors. It’s a far cry from that time a CNN reporter pointed out how “interesting” it was that a dog was barking during the shootout that following the Boston Marathon bombing.

NBC To Extend Dr. Snyderman's Quarantine from NBC's Air

NBC News Medical Correspondent Dr. Nancy Snyderman is about to come out of mandatory quarantine, but don't look for her on NBC's air.

According to an internal memo, NBC brass says that Snyderman "will be taking some time off."

The memo talked about Snyderman and the rest of the crew that accompanied her to Africa to cover the ebola story. Speaking of the crew and Snyderman in particular, the memo said,  "We have encouraged them and they have agreed to take some time off to help restore some normalcy to their lives."

Of course the real reason for the time off is to given viewers a chance to forget Snyderman's trip to a local restaurant. Snyderman made news when she broke her voluntary quarantine to make a run to the local eatery. Many residents in her neighborhood were upset and felt that the NBC newswoman put them at risk for ebola.

Matters were made worse when Synderman issued what can only be described as a very lame apology.

NBC is hoping that Snyderman's absence from the air for almost 2 months total will give viewers time to forget.

Stay tuned....

Really NBC?!

FTVLive told you that Ashoka Mukpo, a freelance Photographer that was working with NBC when he contracted Ebola was discharged from the hospital and is ebola free.

Somehow through great journalism, NBC was able to land an "exclusive" interview with the Photographer that worked for them.

How NBC News was able to beat out ABC, CBS, CNN and Fox News to land an exclusive interview with the man that they are paying and was working on their staff, we have no idea.

NBC made sure to label the interview with a big "exclusive" banner on NBC Nightly News, after all  they beat out everyone, landing an interview with their own employee.

I smell a Murrow award coming on.

More People Cut From the Weather Channel

The EP of the Weather Channel's AMHQ wasn't the only one sent packing yesterday.

Back on October 2nd, FTVLive told you about Weather Channel layoffs and we reported that more cuts were coming before the end of the year.

The Weather Channel denied FTVLive's report and said that they were done with cuts.

Not true.

Sources tell FTVLive that Weather Channel boss David Clark's big speech about no more layoffs was clearly BS.

Sources say that TWC are cutting people very quietly, slyly marching people into meetings and up to HR and then quickly out of the building.

No announcements are being made, people just disappearing.

ABC's Vargas to Return to Work After Rehab

For the second time, ABC News Anchor  is headed back to work after a stint in rehab for alcohol abuse.

The “20/20” anchor tweeted the news that she will return next week.

Vargas checked herself in to a clinic back in August while on vacation in California.

Vargas has been very open with her battle against alcoholism and the troubles that it has caused her.
