Calling the Kettle Black

FTVLive rises each day around 4:30am and often times we are still posting stories after 7PM. We admit, we work fast and post fast and yes, typos do make their way onto the site.

Our excuse is lack of sleep and working as a one man operation that has to do it all. We've gotten better, but we know there is a need for improvement.

But, we're not the only one that let's a typo slip by, check out this screen grab from the PBS Newshour website. What exactly is the State "Deparment"?

We're guessing that PBS has a bigger staff than 1.

Just saying...

Where did it Go?

CBS, who pays millions upon millions of dollars to the NFL for the right to broadcast their games, landed an interview with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

CBS Morning Anchor Norah O'Donnell conducted the interview with Goodell as he fights to keep his job.

O'Donnell sent out this tease on Instagram, with the hashtag #newsisback.

What CBS did not mention is that it took and online news wesbite to help bring news back as CBS and the other networks just sat back and pandered to the NFL and their wishes.

TMZ did the heavy lifting and now the others are mopping up.

So in other words #newsisback, as long as someone else does that hard part.

NBC's MTP Tops Ratings

As FTVLive predicted, Chuck Todd's inaugural show of "Meet The Press" was at the top of the ratings.

MTP came in first in both total viewers and the 25-to-54 demo, according to Nielsen.

Todd kicked off the first show with much buzz and the President of the United States, as one network suit said to FTVLive, "if he didn't win this week, he never was going to."

Either way, NBC suits have to be happy that at least for the moment, beltway boy Todd has given the struggling morning show a lift.

Some David Gregory just ordered another drink.

Sex. Lies and Posted Video

FTVLive is back in the World Headquarters and judging by all the empty beer bottles, we're guessing the FTVLive Intern had a hell of a party the last two days.

But, at least the Intern did not follow the lead of NBC Digital Producer Carlo Dellaverson.

Dellaverson was busted by police Today for secretly making a video of his girlfriend having sex with him on Valentines Day — and posting it on a porn web site.

Police say that Dellaverson works for the NBC station’s online division – hid a camera in the apartment he shared with his 29-year-old girlfriend.

Word is that Dellaverson slipped into bed with his girlfriend while the hidden camera was rolling and later posted the raunchy video the on XTube, the sources said.

The woman discovered the video on the accused perv’s home computer several months later on Sept. 4 — and promptly dumped Dellaverson and moved out.

She later emailed the University of Richmond grad asking him why he posted the video for the world to see — and he confirmed in his reply that he had put the steamy footage online, sources said.

The victim filed a police report and Dellaverson was arrested at his home this morning and charged with with disseminating unlawful surveillance and harassment.

We expect his job will soon be open and posted by NBC.

Who's The Hottest Reporter In Jackson?

Jennifer Ortega

Jennifer Ortega

What a better way to brighten up your Tuesday, than with a "Who's Hot" in Mississippi contest.

According to Jackson Jambalaya, the honor goes to WAPT-TV's Jennifer Ortega. According to her personal website bio, "Jennifer brings lead stories to the 5, 6, and 10pm newscasts and covers breaking news". What else would she supposed to be doing?

Danielle Avitable

Danielle Avitable

To be fair, the runner up is Danielle Avitable from WJTV-TV. "Danielle has had a passion for broadcasting since she was 8 years old. In her free time you can catch her playing tennis, traveling, and hanging out with her dog, Stella.

Those bios always creep me out. If you said, "The Mayor likes to hang out with his dog", wouldn't that seem weird?  TV.

Will California's "Kill Switch" Law Affect Journalists?

Leave it to the folks in California to come up with another genius idea.  Governor Jerry Brown signed into law a bill that requires any smartphone manufactured after June 2015 sold in California to include a feature that can make the device inoperable.

The Bill was supposed to be an anti-theft measure to allow someone to disable their device if stolen. (If you're an Apple disciple, you already know about 'Find My iPhone)

But what if the police decide they don't like coverage of a story? What if the Sheriff's department decides it's in the public's best interest to prohibit photos or videos from a volatile scene? Can they hit the 'kill switch' on your phone?

CBS & Letterman Hit With Intern Lawsuit

The Eye network and The Late Show With David Letterman have been served with an intern class action lawsuit.

Mallory2.jpg

Mallory Musallam, who interned for Letterman for four months back in 2008, says she worked 40-hour weeks doing jobs other employees were paid to do. The lawsuit is seeking compensation for every intern since 2008.

Musallam goes by "MischievousMal" on Twitter, but her profile is locked down. Her LinkedIn profile seems to have been deleted.

Whatever happened to getting college credit and some experience to get a job from your internship? Look at me, after completing my internship at FTVLive, I'll be ready for CNN.

Real Life "Jerry Maguire" Agent: NFL Stonewalled Until TMZ

Former super agent Leigh Steinberg, whose life inspired the film "Jerry Maguire", thinks the NFL knew more than enough to severely punish Baltimore Raven's star Ray Rice back in July.  Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Rice for two games.

Now that TMZ has a tape showing Rice punching and knocking out his then fiance, the NFL suspended him indefinitely and the Raven's fired him.

"It shouldn't take a TMZ tape to set NFL policy on domestic violence", says Steinberg, "The NFL has a unique opportunity to set the standard in role modeling."

You're not going to all of the media play this up too much, because they're afraid the NFL will take financial retribution. It's pretty sad when sports trumps protecting people from violence. I'll say this, it took some 'stones' for Steinberg to come out strong against the NFL. Hey, isn't that how the movie "Jerry Maguire" started?

Fox' Brian Kilmeade: "Take The Stairs"

So what's the advice for Rihanna (Chris Brown), Solange (Jay-Z) and now Janay Palmer (Ray Rice) according to Fox & Friends? TAKE THE STAIRS!

The hosts joked that there seems to be a rash of domestic violence taking place in elevators. Brian Kilmeade said, "The message is clear. Take the stairs."

Let's go to the video:

Uh oh, I think someone's going to get called into the principal's office over this one.

Former NBC Boss Thinks He Can Fix CBS

Former NBC News president Steve Capus, thinks "old school reporting" can still work in TV news; despite consumers' seemingly short attention span.

In fact, Capus - who is now an executive editor and overseer of the CBS Evening News, ran a package that was 4:45 long - an entire block of the newscast!

Anchorman Scott Pelley is apparently on board: “We’re in a fascinating moment in human history,” says Pelley, “Never before has so much information been available to so many people. But the other side of that coin is never in human history has so much bad information been available to so many people,” thanks to new forms of digital and social media that allow for the instantaneous dissemination of information and opinion. Viewers need an institution that will tell them “if what they heard today was true,”

Wouldn't it be refreshing to see a newscast with actual NEWS in it and not the crazy stuff the Kardashians are known for?

Variety has the entire story.

Shake-up In Phoenix?

FTVLive is hearing rumors there's about to be a big management announcement in Phoenix. We think we have it nailed down, but we're going to get more corroboration first (for you Millennials, that means getting more than one source to confirm something).

Let's just say one company is going to be very happy, and another is going to be left scrambling. Who will it be? Stay tuned.

What's Happening At WBNS?

Several FTVLive readers sent us the news that Paul Aker is leaving WBNS.

People come and go in TV all the time, but when your last day is a Monday and your bio is already gone from the website.......? According to his Facebook page, at least there was cake.

Aker was their investigative reporter and had been at WBNS for 7 years.  He's won 13 Emmys.

Lately, it seems WBNS could mean: We Bring No Stability

Boston Anchor Battles "Life-Threatening" Illness

WCVB anchor Phil Lipof regularly works out. A few weeks ago, he developed an infection in his right elbow. Doctors diagnosed it as MRSA.

As scary as MRSA sounds, it's actually pretty common and could be in your body right now just waiting for you to cut yourself.

When Lipoff started taking the antibiotics to combat MRSA, that's were it got extremely dangerous.
