New York Anchor Leaving

Word is that WNBC Anchor Tom Llamas is leaving the Peacock. His last day is Friday.

Tuned In reports that News Director Susan Sullivan broke the news to the staff in an email.  t

When Llamas was hired at the NBC O&O, he quickly moved up from Reporter to the Anchor desk and was also part of the station's I-Team.

In June of 2013, Llamas was taken off the noon anchoring slot to concentrate on the I-Team reports. He has maintained the 5 p.m. broadcast with Shiba Russell.

No word on where Llamas’ is headed next.

Stay tuned....

Kicked to the Curb in Jax

In case you didn't long onto FTVLive late yesterday evening, we broke the news that WTLV/WJXX (Jacksonville) GM Eric Land is out at the Gannett station.

Land was named GM of the station two years ago. "I'm very anxious to be part of making history here," said Land upon meeting the staff in August of 2012.

It looks like Land will end up being only a small part of the history of First Coast News with just a short stint at the station.

Here is the very short internal memo that was sent inside Gannett:

Today Eric resigned as President and General Manager of WTLV/WJXX.   We wish Eric the best and thank him for his two years with our company.

Getting Out of Greenville

WYFF in Greenville might want to change the door to the station to a revolving one, as word comes down that another staffer is leaving the station.

Sources tell FTVLive that Anchor Angela Rodriguez is leaving the station late next month. Rodriguez joined WYF in September 2009 as anchor of the 6pm and 11pm weekend newscasts.

She is joining a long list of people that have recently left the station. Since the fall of 2012, WYFF has lost 4 reporters, an editor, 3 producers, 4 photogs, a traffic guy, and two meteorologists.

Here is the internal memo that News Director Bruce Barkley sent to the staff:

Weekend Anchor Angela Rodriguez has decided to pursue other opportunities at the end of her contract this fall and will be leaving WYFF News 4.

Angela will be working through September.

The anchor/reporter job has been listed and a search is on for our next weekend anchor/reporter.

We thank Angela for her 5 years of service.

Please contact me if you know of any strong candidates.

San Antonio Station Gets a Bad Rap (Updated)

KSAT in San Antonio reported the story about the arrest of a rapper 'Young Jeezy' in California.

The station posted a link to the story on Twitter and included a photo. The problem was, KSAT's photo of the rapper was not Jeezy and was a completely different rapper.

The station posted a picture of rapper 'Birdman" who doesn't look anything like Jeezy.

A number of Twitter uses pointed out the mistake to KSAT and the station deleted the tweet and the story without making any comment about their mistake.

Update: KSAT issued a statement blaming a third party graphics company. How convenient.

Chicago Station Falls for Fake Story

Sometimes it is hard to tell the fake stories from the real ones that are posted on the Internet.

But, in this case it seemed fairly easy to spot that this story was a hoax. The website College Humor posted a group of photos that they titled "This Is The Most Passive-Aggressive Office Battle We've Ever Seen." The pictures depicted an exchange of break room notes that escalates into a sandwich hostage crisis.

It was funny, but clearly it was not real.

But, it seems that WFLD Fox 32 in Chicago did not get the joke and they wrote about the sandwich story on the station's website.

The idea that someone at the station actually thought this was a real story is a bit scary for the state of Today's TV news.

Female Anchors/Reporters Dissed on Twitter

If you're a female working in TV News, I don't have to tell you what you that there are some mean people on social media.

A study by the think tank Demos looking at millions of Twitter messages found that well-known or famous men receive more offensive and negative messages than their female counterparts.

Except in one category: female journalists.

Female journalists were the only subjects that got trolled on and verbally abused more than men.

More than 5 percent of all Twitter messages sent to female journalists are unfavorable, according to the study. In every other category of distinguished females, however, the number is much lower, at 1 in every 70 tweets.

Ladies, I don't know about you, but I would still rather read the messages from the haters and watch one more damn ice bucket challenge.

But that's just me.....

ESPN Moves Olbermann Cuts Show to Half Hour

Many didn't think it was possible, but Keith Olbermann survived one year at ESPN without getting fired.

But, ESPN did announce that they are moving Olby's show from 11PM to 5PM and cutting it down to just a half hour.

Olbermann announced the changes on his show last night and also said he would be returning from time to time to do SportsCenter.

Let's go to the video:

Producer Claims Fox O&O Pushed Her Out After She Got Cancer

Producer Claims Fox O&O Pushed Her Out After She Got Cancer

A former KRIV (Houston) morning Producer claims she lost her job after she developed cancer and was forced to take time off work.

Margaret Cordes filed a lawsuit July 29 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas Houston Division against Fox Television Stations and KRIV Fox 26.

In her complaint, Cordes claims she was hired in September 2009 as morning executive producer for the Fox 26 morning news. She exceled at her position, receiving numerous positive reviews about her job performance, according to the complaint.

The Southeast Texas Record writes that in 2010, Cordes claims she was forced to take a medical leave of absence because she was forced to undergo surgery to treat her cancer, the suit states. After she returned to work, she began to be harassed and abused by her fellow employees and subjected to a hostile work environment, the complaint says.

Cordes complained to human resources about the way she was being treated. After her complaints, however, things continued to get worse, she says.

Anchor Changes in Bean Town

A big Anchor Change is going down in Boston.

WBZ has announced: Kathryn Hauser (pictured) joins the station to anchor its weekday morning and noon newscasts. Hauser is coming to Boston from News 12 Connecticut. She’s been a morning anchor at that Cablevision-owned station, which is primarily viewed in Fairfield County, since 2009. Before her time at News 12, she was a reporter at Fox23 News in Albany.

The Boston Business Journal writes that with longtime anchor Jack Williams’ pending retirement at the end of the month, WBZ-TV is shuffling the decks. Paula Ebben and Jonathan Elias, who are now a team at the 5 p.m. slot, will co-anchor the 6 p.m. news slot at WBZ-TV as well as the 10 p.m. news slot at sister station myTV38 (WSBK-TV).

Lisa Hughes, who has been paired with Williams in the 6 p.m. slot and Elias in the 11 p.m. slot, moves to co-anchor the 5 p.m. news with David Wade, who currently co-anchors the morning show with Kate Merrill and the noon show with Ebben. (The Boston Herald is reporting that Merrill will remain at the station but have a different job once Hauser arrives to take over the morning show.) Hughes and Wade will also co-anchor the 11 p.m. news in the new lineup. The changes are scheduled to take effect on Monday.

Jacksonville GM is Out

A couple of sources tell FTVLive that WTLV/WJXX GM Eric Land is out at the Gannett station.

Land was named GM of the station two years ago. "I'm very anxious to be part of making history here," said Land upon meeting the staff in August of 2012.

It looks like Land will end up being only a small part of the history of First Coast News with just a short stint at the station.

Land is still listed on FCN's website as the GM and his voicemail is still setup at the station.

In FTVLive's dealing with Land, he was not very forthright with us.

It appears that karma might have bitten back.

Former CNN Anchor has Advice for Current CNNers About to Get Fired

Many staffers at CNN and HLN are sitting on pins and needles waiting to find out if their job is one of those that will be eliminated. It is not a fun time to be working at a Turner property.

Former CNN Anchor Daryn Kagan knows exactly how the current CNN staffers feel. In 2006, Kagan was called into then CNN President Jon Klein's office and told her contract was not being renewed and that she would be gone from CNN.

Kagain took to Facebook Today to post a message of support to those sitting and wondering what will happen?

Kagan writes:

To my CNN peeps and family getting "The Letter," waiting for the other layoff shoe to drop I'll tell you what I often tell folks--I'd still be sitting in that anchor chair if they hadn't kicked me out the door AND I haven't missed it a single second since I left. Missed some of the folks yes, but not the job. I also never asked "Why?" when Jon Klein told me they wouldn't be renewing my contract. I suspected then as I know now, the closing of one chapter is so much bigger than one boss' or one company's decision. It was simply time. Doesn't mean I was happy the day I found out. Allow yourself to have your sad, but just know that I'm not alone in this--so many wonderful things that have happened since I left CNN would've could've never happened if I were still in that same chapter. Here's to your next chapter and know that you have the most incredible network of CNN Alums out here ready to help, give a hug, and hold your hand through the process.

Did Al Sharpton Lie to the Entire City of Chicago?

Like a moth to a flame, Al Sharpton will go to where the TV lights shine brightest.

A man is choked to death by NYPD, the media shows up to cover the story and it isn't long before Al Sharpton is there.

A cop shoots a black man in Ferguson and before the blood is even mopped up on the street, Al Sharpton is there.

Not many tune into watch Al Sharpton's show on MSNBC, so the Rev. Al goes to where the media is. It seems to help feed his giant ego and get as him much face time as possible.

Not that long ago, the big story in the media was the gang violence and murders happening in Chicago. The media was widely covering the Windy City killings and of course, since the media was there, Al Sharpton was not far behind.

Sharpton came to Chicago and promised a he would help end the gang violence and help stop the killings.

In a column last July, the Sun-Times Mary Mitchell quoted Sharpton saying “I am taking an apartment to put a spotlight on gun violence. Although voting rights and other things exist, our challenge inside is gun violence and putting the focus on ourselves.” Sharpton promised that, come September, he would “bring his MSNBC show to Chicago two or three times a week and interview people in the community. He also said he would get up in the morning to walk children to school.”

How many kids do you think Rev. Al has walked to school in Chicago? How many of his shows have you seen him do from Chicago? How many nights has Al slept in his Chicago apartment?

Did Reverend Al Sharpton lie to an entire city?

Or were there just not enough TV cameras for him to waste his time in the Windy City?

A Win for the Good Guys

Back on August 6th, FTVLive posted a video from WAND in Decatur, IL in which some idiot grabs the Reporter's mic and screams "f@#k her in the pu$$y."

The guy that yelled that into the mic was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and battery.

After FTVLive posted the video on YouTube, WAND filed a copyright claim and had the video pulled.

FTVLive filed a counter claim showing that using this video had fallen under the fair use guidelines. We are happy to report that we won the claim and the video is now back on YouTube and WAND can go suck it for trying to get the video pulled in the first place.

By the way, we also won a counter claim by Hearst Television as well. FTVLive takes fair use and first amendment rights very seriously and we will continue to fight TV stations and ownership groups that try and silence the news.

Hard to believe that any station or group owner would be trying to censor news, but these are different times.

Here's the video that WAND does not want you to see or FTVLive to post:

Richmond News Crew Saves Kitten

Anyone that reads FTVLive knows that I LOVE animals....it's people that I hate.

So, FTVLive wants to give some props to WRIC Reporter Nate Eaton and Photographer Tony Luckett for coming to the rescue of a little kitten.

The crew was driving to an assignment when they saw a kitten sitting in the middle of a Richmond road.

A witness said they saw the cat being dropped out of a vehicle (ASSHOLE!!!!! That was an FTVLive editorial comment in case you couldn't tell).

Luckett sprang into action, saving the kitten, who sought shelter under a truck's wheel well before they were able to get the cat free.
