"Deep Throat" Parking Garage to be Demolished

A parking garage in Rosslyn, Virginia will soon be demolished.

The garage holds a lot of journalism history.  It is where FBI official then known as Deep Throat spilled the Watergate secrets on President Nixon to Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward.

A plaque commemorating Woodward and Deep Throat — revealed as former FBI associate director Mark Felt in 2005 — will remain in place.

On a side note, another parking garage near Buffalo, NY..... was also refereed to as the deep throat parking garage. The name was given by a group of us kids.

It had nothing to do with President Nixon and everything to do with follow high school senior Anne Marie Stevens.

I wonder what she's doing now? That girl had talent.

Done in Jacksonville

Two stories, two different stations.

Word is that WTEV/WAWS Anchor Tera Barz's desk has been cleaned out and Barz was not seen on the air last week.

Barz is one of the 5 anchors that the Cox station had told that their contracts were not being renewed.

It was expected that the 5 would be leaving the anchor desk sometime in the Fall, but Barz seems to have opted out early.

The station nor parent company Cox is commenting on the matter.

Across the street at WTLV, it appears that News Director Kathy Williams is no longer at the station.

Williams has not been seen in the newsroom for months and when FTVLive called WTLV GM Eric Land months ago and asked if Williams was gone? He replied that "nothing could be further from the truth."

Well, it appears that the truth wasn't that far away after all.

Williams is no longer with the station.

Jacksonville stations love to promote that fact on how good they are at reporting the news and asking the tough questions. But, WTLV and WTEV have shown that is only the case when you are not reporting on them.

Hypocrites!

Back to Being Dawn?

10426612_10203822424301196_5024704456965442313_n.jpg

It looks like a new Dawn.

Former ABCer Don Ennis surprised staffers one day when he walked into the newsroom wearing a black dress and told co-workers he wanted to be called "Dawn" from now on.

Three months later had told that same staff in an email, “I am writing to let you know I’m changing my name . . . to Don Ennis. That will be my name again, now and forever. And it appears I’m not transgender after all.

“I have retained the much different mind-set I had in 1999: I am now totally, completely, unabashedly male in my mind, despite my physical attributes,” he said.

“I’m asking all of you who accepted me as a transgender to now understand: I was misdiagnosed.

“I am already using the men’s room and dressing accordingly,” he noted.

But now it appears that Don is Dawn once again.

Sources in Tampa say that Ennis showed up at a station reunion party as Dawn.

Don/Dawn has also posted recent Facebook pictures as Dan and seems to be dressing once again as a woman.

Confusing to say the least.

Choke on that News

Friday the 13th was not lucky for WTVF (Nashville) Anchor Jessica Ralston.

Ralston was anchoring the late newscast solo when she started to cough and choke on air. She tossed to Reporter Emily Luxen who was in the studio to front her package.

Ralston left the set and headed to the hospital, while Luxen anchored the rest of the newscast.

Ralston said that she has been battling bronchitis and it acted up on air.

She later tweeted that all was good and gave a big thanks to Luxen.

Moral of the story is always have a co-anchor.

NO? You Really Tweeted that?

The LA Kings won the Stanley Cup over the Weekend.

Many left coast celebrities that know little about hockey or could have cared less about the Kings, jumped on the bandwagon as the team got closer to winning the championship.

After the Kings locked up the crown, KTTV Anchor Susan Hirasuna told her fans to head out into the streets and riot.

Hirasuna says she was kidding in the tweet, but really, should a TV news anchor being saying that at all?

If I was the station's News Director, Hirasuna would be in my office for a brief talk first thing this morning.

Just saying....

NBC Sports Does Last US Open

ESPN had coverage of the US Open from Pinehurst on Thursday and Friday, before the coverage moved over to NBC.

Next year, Fox takes over the coverage of the USGA Championships from NBC and ESPN.

The good news? We won't have to suffer trying to watch US Open golf with Chris Berman from ESPN. Berman has basically ruined ESPN's coverage for years and now he will be gone.

The bad news, NBC and Johnny Miller are on the outside looking in.

Miller and co-host Dan Hicks signed off yesterday's US Open and you could tell that it really stung Miller, knowing it was his last one.

Calling the tournament ''the highlight of my career,'' Hicks said he ''had the best seat in the house with the best analyst that has ever done this game.''

Miller appeared to choke back tears.

''I believe there's a time and a season for everything,'' Miller said. ''There have been a lot of great memories, lot of great champions, lot of great moments, and I've had my share.''

''Partner,'' Hicks said, shaking Miller's hand, ''thank you for a great ride.''

Fox takes over coverage next year and Miller for one doesn't think they will be up to the task. ''No way they can step in and do the job we were doing. It's impossible. There's just no way. I wish Fox the very best.''

Fox might not cover the Open as good as NBC, but you can bet your bottom dollar, they will be better than Chris Berman.

Anything would be better than that idiot.

NBC Staffer Arrested at the US Open

Speaking of the US Open......

An NBC employee who drove the golf cart for on course announcer Roger Maltbie was arrested during Saturday's third round.

Tommy Lineberry faces four charges after an incident on the course with a North Carolina Highway Patrol officer.

Lineberry was charged with felony assault on a law enforcement officer, felony hit and run, driving while impaired, and resisting, obstructing and delaying a law enforcement officer.

A state trooper said he ignored instructions to stay put, then hit the officer with the golf cart on the 11th hole.

Lineberry who was likely contracted by NBC was released from a  jail after posting bail later Saturday night, officials said. NBC Sports said it was aware of the incident but declined further comment.

Vegas Station Owner is Dead

KSNV (Las Vegas) owner Jim Rogers died Saturday evening at his Las Vegas home. He was 75.

Rogers, who lived 61 years in Las Vegas, was the longtime owner of  Intermountain West Communications, which operated the NBC affiliate  KSNV in Las Vegas and a handful of other stations,  including in Reno and Elko. From that position, Rogers regularly railed  against tight-fisted state legislators for the hard times facing both  K-12 and higher education.

Rogers sold KRNV (Reno) late last year.

No word yet on what will happen to KSNV in Sin City.

Katie Couric felt ‘pummeled’ at CBS News

It might be hard to feel sorry for Katie Couric, but not everything has been roses to the perky one.

Couric took such a beating in the press after she jumped ship to CBS she started comparing herself to Hillary Clinton, a new book says.

The steep drop in popularity that followed Couric’s exit from NBC’s “Today” show in 2006 left her full of self-pity, according to author Sheila Weller.

The NY Daily News writes that, “In private, Katie — who had recently turned 50 — was now beginning to actively and repeatedly compare herself to the embattled but energized Hillary Clinton,” Weller writes in her new book — “The News Sorority: Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric, Christiane Amanpour — and the (Ongoing, Imperfect, Complicated) Triumph of Women in TV.”

“Katie deeply related to Hillary; she felt she was being pummeled as the first female anchor just like Clinton was being pummeled as the first major female presidential candidate,” Weller wrote.

Couric became an object of derision the moment she arrived at CBS News with a $15 million salary and celebrity attitude, the book says.

“The resentment was virtually immediate,” a CBS correspondent told Weller, according to the book, which comes out in September.

“The burden was on her,” Weller wrote. “People were waiting to see her disprove the reputation she arrived with. You’ve gotta be conscious of the fact that you’re making at least ten or fifteen or twenty times more than anybody on the show.”

“Katie can put on a charm offensive if she wants to,” the book says. “But really, she doesn’t give a s--- about you only as much as it affected her.”

Instead of taking on the “real work” associated with being a managing editor, the book says, “Katie was out doing other things.”

“She was being a star,” Weller wrote

Last week, Couric taped the last episode of her daytime talk show “Katie,” which is being yanked off the air after two seasons.

O'Donnell Settles in at CBS This Morning

CBS This Morning is still stuck in third place and will likely be there for a while.

But the troubled morning show is starting to show some life and Norah O'Donnell is a big reason for that.

When  O’Donnell joined “CBS This Morning” in 2012, she seemed an odd choice to co-anchor what was then a casual morning show.

Detractors questioned whether two strong women, she and Gayle King, could get along and whether she had the broadcast anchor chops to help lift the flagging show.

But if O’Donnell had any trouble settling in or getting along with her new co-workers, you couldn’t tell by the team’s chemistry or the instant ratings boost. While it’s still mired in third place, behind the “Today” show and “Good Morning America,” “CBS This Morning’s” ratings since O’Donnell joined co-hosts King and Charlie Rose continue to climb; currently they’re up 11% over last year.

“Our show was like turning around a battleship,” O’Donnell says. “Now it’s just trying to pick up speed.”

The NY Daily News says that his week the New York State Broadcasters Association will name O’Donnell Broadcaster of the Year. “She represents the best in the next generation of news reporters and anchors,” says Association President David Donovan.

“I am extremely competitive,” says O’Donnell, unapologetically. “I grew up playing sports, and I’m in the news business where you’re always working to scoop somebody. “Good journalists are not just always curious; they’re also always competitive. I like to win. I want to win.”

It will likely be a loooongtime before CBS This Morning wins the ratings, but at least they are headed the right direction.

CNN Subtracts 59 School Shootings from Report

After Tuesday's shooting at an Oregon high school, CNN and other media outlets reported that there have been 74 school shootings in the past 18 months.

That's the time period since the December 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, where 20 children and six adults were shot to death.

On their website, CNN said that they decided to take a closer look at that number. Maybe, just maybe, they should check the facts before the first report. I know, it's a novel idea.

Anyway, CNN has now dropped the number from 74 to 15.

The network says that the 74 number came from a group called Everytown for Gun Safety, an umbrella group started by former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a passionate and public advocate of gun control.

But those shootings weren't all real because they included school shootings involving a firearm discharged inside or on school grounds, including assaults, homicides, suicides and accidental shootings.

So CNN dropped the number from 74 to 15.

In other words, someone with ties to the gun industry called up CNN and the network folded like a lawn chair.

What the Hail was That?

KIRO Meteorologist Morgan Palmer was sitting on a commuter plane in Abilene, Texas.

A nasty storm was hitting the runway and Palmer broke out his phone to shoot some video out of the plane's window. You could not see much, but before long you could hear a lot.

Very large hail started bouncing off the aircraft and it was LOUD. In fact after the hailstorm, the plane had to head back to the gate because it was damaged.

Hail the size of softballs was reported in the area.

Let's go to Palmer's video:

Ummmm.....

CNN caught heat after it was revealed that their show ChicagoLand promised to make Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel look good on the CNN documentary.

Emanuel is a Democrat and many accused of CNN  to pandering to the left.

Well, when it comes to bad ethics, CNN will swing left or right.

This weekend CNN is airing mother documentary, this time about George Bush (the first one), called "41ON41".

The doc is filled with family members, friends and colleagues of Bush saying things like, "You can't be around George Bush and not come away a better person."

t seems that the show will feature 41 people saying glowing things about the 41st President, hence the name 41ON41.

But, here's the problem that we see with the documentary that CNN does not.

The doc was funded by the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation.

In other words, it's really no different than watching a 2 hour paid infomercial for the Tiger Shark Vacuum.

his is a paid for documentary to make George Bush look good.

As we said, at least CNN is willing to sellout to the right or left.

SMH!

Damn! That's Better Than I Ever Did

A TV crew making a documentary about bailiffs was shocked to find £5million-worth of dollars hidden inside a wooden box in a flat.

It was found in east London near some new-builds in the Docklands.

The cache was discovered by the TV crew on Wednesday morning when they followed bailiffs to the property.

The officers were executing a warrant to recover money. A man aged 29, arrested on suspicion of money laundering, has been released on bail until mid-August.

The most I ever found on a shoot was 25 cents a frog and two marbles.
