The names have been released in the KOMO News Chopper crash. FTVLive has known the names for a few hours and although it was a long shot that the victims family would log onto FTVLive, we like many others held the names.

We can now report that victims of this morning's helicopter crash are Photographer Bill Strothman (pictured above) and Chopper Pilot Gary Fitzner (right).

Our thoughts go out to their families and co-workers.

Ummmmm..... (Updated)

KDVR in Denver was trying to show some Twitter pictures of the KOMO Chopper Crash on their air this morning. Instead they showed a shot of a penis.

Above is the picture of the Anchors reactions after the dick pic got on air.

Here is the video which is obviously not safe for work:

Update: KDVR News Director Ed Kosowski told the Denver Post, "We are going to make a public statement. We are not ready to comment about any potential action against employees. That's a personnel matter." For now, he said, an apology and explanation is forthcoming.

Statement from KIRO

KIRO in Seattle released this statement in regards to the deadly crash of the KOMO News Chopper:

"We are saddened by the loss of life in this morning’s helicopter accident at KOMO-TV. At a moment like this, our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who were killed this morning.

Effective immediately, KIRO7’s helicopter has been grounded. We have no reason to believe that there’s anything wrong with our chopper, but we are taking this action out of an abundance of caution.

KIRO staff has spoken to news managers at both KOMO and KING, which share the helicopter, and have offered to assist them in coverage of this terrible accident."

KOMO Anchor Tries to Hold it Together While Reporting on Crash

KOMO Anchor Dan Lewis is on the air reporting on the crash of the station's news chopper.

Lewis is doing his best to keep it together while reporting on the tragic death of two of his co-workers.

Many times during the coverage, Lewis voice cracked.

Anchors report the deaths of people each and everyday on the news, it is that much harder when you personally know the people that died.

Lewis is was just about to board a flight to go interview President Obama. He said that it is not often that you blow off and interview with the President, but he felt he needed to be with the KOMO news family.

KOMO is still not reporting the names of those that were killed, even though they all know who it is. They are waiting for the families to be notified.

The KOMO chopper went down right in front of the station's  Fisher Plaza studio. The crash was witnessed by a number of KOMO employees looking out the window. Witnesses said they could hear that the news chopper was in trouble before it went down.

The crash happened just seconds after the helicopter lifted off from the station.

2 Killed in Seattle News Chopper Crash

Two people were killed and one was critically injured when the KOMO (Seattle) News helicopter crashed and burned Tuesday morning on Broad Street only yards away from the Space Needle.

Emergency personnel immediately rushed to the scene.

KOMO reports that two vehicles were struck in the crash. Witnesses said a man could be seen running from from one car with his sleeve on fire, and he was extinguished by officers at the scene.

Huge flames and plumes of black smoke poured from the burning wreckage, about 50 yards from the base of the Space Needle. Fuel gushing from the wreckage caught fire and burned for a block from the crash scene.

The Seattle Fire Department said two people were found dead in the wreckage. A third person was rushed to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of critical injuries.

Witnesses said the helicopter crashed as it was taking off from the roof of Fisher Plaza, across the street from the Space Needle.Fire crews were able to extinguish the flames within a half-hour. Traffic was diverted from the area.

The Recruiter

KUSA News Director Patti Dennis is being bumped up the food chain Gannett Broadcasting.

Dennis is adding corporate recruiting responsibilities while cutting back day-to-day newsroom duties, according to an announcement from the parent company.

Rob Mennie, Gannett Broadcasting's SVP of News, told the staff on March 10 that Dennis is adding the title of Director of Recruiting for Gannett Broadcasting.

"In her new role, Patti will work directly with our stations to help recruit both on and off air candidates. She will create an online database of potential employees and work with a small team of people in order to find the best and brightest for our properties. She will also work closely with Virgil Smith and his team in our convention and university recruiting," Mennie said.

"Patti will continue to be VP/News at KUSA but will have less involvement in the day to day operations of the newsroom. She will also continue to work with KPNX (Phoenix) in her role as Regional News Executive."

Mark Cornetta, general manager for KUSA, told the staff, "The good news is that Patti will still be here and still play a role in our news organization." By phone he added, "she is a wonderful ambassador for the industry."

Dennis, who has been with 9News for more than 30 years, confirmed via email Monday, "I am working on the new assignment as well as working with the newsroom in Denver for a while."

Anchoring the Newscast Wearing Camo

To show you just how stupid stations will get to try and drum up Facebook "Likes," let's head to Mobile, AL and WPMI.

Anchor Greg Peterson went on the air yesterday dressed in a camouflage outfit.

Why?

Because the station got to their goal of 50,000 "Likes" on Facebook.

Peterson promised that he would sport the Camo if the station was able to get to the 50K goal. He went on the air yesterday dressed as a redneck and sporting a Duck Dynasty hat. Peterson said it was "all for a good cause".

Which would make you believe that it was raising money for charity or something.

It wasn't.

The "cause" was getting Facebook "Likes"...... which really doesn't do anything for the station or the people that "liked" them.

Other than making your Anchor look stupid and lame.
