Weatherman Ready to get Back in Game

Weatherman Ready to get Back in Game

KMSP (Minneapolis) meteorologist Ian Leonard missed the November book, but now he's ready to get back to work.

The Pioneer Press reports that Leonard has been dealing with a changing forecast lately. But it's not the weather that's been unpredictable, it's his health. After being off the air for nine weeks due to a serious soccer injury, Leonard is returning to Fox 9 on Monday.

In early October, Leonard was playing goalie at a Minnesota United fantasy camp when he broke his nose.

"I was going up for a big glory save at the fantasy camp and as I was coming down, my nose inadvertently met somebody's forearm/fist and I broke my nose," said Leonard, who has been with Fox 9 since 2006.

Turns out his injury was more than a broken nose. Days after the accident, Leonard started to have double vision, dizziness and headaches. After seeing a neurologist, he was diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome.

Sentencing of Pervert Weatherman is Postponed

WPTV-Rob-Lopicola_20131022103224_320_240.JPG

Convicted pedophile ex-WPTV (West Palm Beach) weatherman Rob Lopicola  was supposed to be sentenced Today.

But now his fate in prison has been postponed.

The sentencing was set for this morning but prosecutors and Lopicola’s public defender requested more time.

“The reason for the postponement is to give both parties more time to prepare for the hearing,” said Mike Edmondson, spokesman for Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg.

Lopicola’s facing 20 years in prison after he was convicted by a jury of lewd and lascivious conduct and computer pornography and exploitation in October. He was cleared of the more serious charge of lewd and lascivious battery.

The charges stemmed from his July 2012 arrest after two underage boys told police they met Lopicola online and had sex with him in several occasions.

In one instance in West Palm Beach, Lopicola was busted by the mother of one victim who’d come home early and found the formerly beloved weatherman cowering in the shower.

Dallas Stations Step up with Storm Coverage

Screen Shot 2013-12-06 at 8.57.53 AM.png

A big ice storm is socking Dallas and the stations were out in force alerting viewers to the problems the storm was causing.

How refreshing to see four newsrooms that get it.

You'd be splitting hairs to say which station did better on ice-storm coverage this morning in Dallas-Ft. Worth.

Each station had multiple crews in the studio and in the field.  Kudos to the field crews for telling stories and talking to people rather than standing in the dark and saying they're cold.

Makes you think that sometimes you do see good Journalism on local news.

 Sometimes....

Al Jazeera America Goes on TW starting Today

Time Warner Cable customers have wanted this for months. They have been begging for it to happen and now it has.

OK, maybe not....

Time Warner is adding Al Jazeera America to their line-up starting Today.

“We are very pleased that Time Warner Cable has agreed to include us in their lineup,” said Ehab Al Shihabi, Al Jazeera America’s interim CEO. “As always, we remain committed to providing in-depth, unbiased journalism and we’re excited to work with Time Warner Cable to make our channel available to their customers.”

Of course, no one will watch it.

The KTVA Set

The other day, FTVLive told you about the new news set and newsroom at KTVA in Alaska.

Although KTVA is not in a very large market their set would rival anything you would see at a top 10 station.

The set was designed and built by Devlin Design Group and it is gorgeous.

“GCI (KTVA's owner) made it clear at the onset of this project that it was their priority to choose the right team to help them reinvent KTVA for the digital age.  Devlin Design Group is proud to be a part of that team and congratulates KTVA and GCI on the successful launch of this exciting new era of content delivery in Alaska,” says Dan Devlin.

Here are some more pics of the set:

The Today Show Emoji

The Today Show tried to bring in the young viewers, by showing how hip they are. The show did a segment on emojis (those little charters your kids use when they text).

NBC PR even tweeted out a line up so you know who is what emoji on Today:

Looking at it, we have some questions.

First of all the Matt Lauer emoji has more hair than Matt. Tamron Hall looks just like Carson Daly minus the stash. Savannah and Kathie Lee are twins. And don't even get me started on Al Roker.

And who the hell is Willie Geist?

Hush Money

BrianLewis1.jpg

It looks like the guy that knows the secrets of Fox News will not be spilling them anytime soon.

Former Fox News PR Head Brian Lewis has reached a settlement with FNC that will keep him quiet.

The NY Times writes that Lewis, who was fired from the network last July, was the executive vice president who led the aggressive communications and public relations arm of Fox News. A former colleague and current worker at the channel — who spoke on the condition of anonymity out of fear of being fired — revealed two weeks ago that Mr. Lewis had agreed to a deal that would pay him a sizable sum to remain quiet about whatever he knows about operations at the notoriously secretive company.

Damn! Looks like our Christmas wish isn't going to come true.

We Want Our Money Back

We Want Our Money Back

The people that say they were ripped off by former Philly Sports Anchor Don Tollefson want their money back.

"I don't want him to go to jail," Michelle Keane said of Tollefson. "I just want a refund."

The Philly Daily News says that when Tllefson called Keane about 10 p.m. one night last winter and asked for her credit-card number, Keane gladly obliged.

Anyone else, she would have been suspicious. But it was Don Tollefson, the former TV sports director known for his charity work. A Hall of Fame member of the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia.

In a city where local television personalities enjoy celebrity status, Tollefson had built up decades of goodwill.

"He sold himself pretty well," Keane said. "We'll never be that stupid again."

Houston Anchor Finds Out About His Family's Past

KHOU 11 News Anchor Ron Trevino said he didn’t know much about his family tree until Ancestry.com approached him and asked if he’d be willing to let their researchers explore his background.

What they found was a shocking story, and among the stories Ancestry.com highlighted, was about his great-grandmother, a woman Trevino never met.

Softball with Chris Matthews

Softball with Chris Matthews

Howie Kurtz says that MSNBC's Chris Matthews rolled over and played nice in his interview with President Obama.

Kurtz writes on Fox News I’m not sure what Chris Matthews was doing with President Obama yesterday, but it wasn’t hardball.

It wasn’t even softball.

It was more like wiffle ball.

Everyone knew going in that the MSNBC host would be a sympathetic interviewer. But he knew he would be graded on his aggressiveness, so I expected at least a few fastballs. Uh uh.

Instead, in a half-hour sitdown, there was one challenging question. Just one.

More, plus we have a question for Howie after the jump.
