Did CNN Try and Fool Viewers with Photo?

Did CNN Try and Fool Viewers with Photo?

The story of the two kids killed by a escaped python was as bizarre as it was shocking.

Many news outlets, including CNN covered the story of two young Canadian boys who were apparently killed when a python escaped from its cage.

In their coverage, CNN had a photo of two boys with a snake crawling up on one boys with the Dad standing right there.  The little boy is nose to nose with the giant snake!

But, the thing was this was not the snake that killed the boys. In fact boys pictured in the photo were not the boys that were killed. The man in the photo was not the Dad.

What the hell was CNN trying to pull off here?

The cable net used a stock photo from Getty Images and if CNN wasn’t trying to pass this off as a photo of the two victims, it certainly came across that way.

Interns Takeover Atlanta Newscast

Interns Takeover Atlanta Newscast

I have told countless J-School students that they will learn more in a Summer Internship than they will in 4 years years of college.

The interns at WSB in Atlanta got a treat...the station let the Interns record an entire newscast and the whole thing was done by the students.

Producing, Directing and the Talent were all Interns and while there were some stumbles here and there, the kids did a good job with their mock newscast.

The newscast did not make it on air, it will live on the Internet forever.

After the jump, take some time to watch the kids that will likely one day replace you:

Here Comes the (Casey Anthony) Judge

Move over, Judge Judy.

Orange-Osceola Chief Judge Belvin Perry Jr., who gained national fame through the Casey Anthony trial, could headline his own court show in fall 2014.

"We've been keeping it very quiet. We're partnered to do a judge show," producer Jim Lichtenstein told the Orlando Sentinel on Monday. Lichtenstein covered the Anthony trial as a freelance producer for NBC's "Today."

"There's high interest in the man," Lichtenstein said. "A year ago, we tried and it didn't work."

So why will it work now? Find out after the jump.

Ladies Night

os-gwen-ifill-judy-woodruff-to-coanchor-pbs-ne-001.jpeg

The PBS sausage fest of Jim Lehrer and Robert MacNeil is a thing of the past.

Now it's time for the ladies to have a shot.

Gwen Ifill and Judy Woodruff will fill those roles when they become co-anchors and managing editors of "PBS NewsHour" in September.

"Gwen and I love working together and appreciate the trust viewers put in the 'PBS NewsHour' both on TV and online," Woodruff said in a statement.

"We've successfully worked side by side for many years covering conventions, elections and countless other news events," Ifill said. "We make a great team."

They will be co-anchors Monday through Thursday. Woodruff will anchor solo on Fridays when Ifill will host "Washington Week."

On "NewsHour," the women are taking positions that were first held by men: Jim Lehrer and Robert MacNeil.

Made in the Shade...NOT

BQ7_V_MCYAEEqxi.jpg-large.jpeg

Reporters, I could care less if you wear a bra or not on your live shots. In fact depending on how you look, I might prefer that you didn't.

But please...I beg you, no matter how cool you think it looks, don't wear your sunglasses.

WTLV in Jacksonville Sports Anchor Chris Porter hit the air last night doing a live shot while wearing his shades.

Despite what he thought, it didn't look cool. In fact it looked more like they sent it out live to Stevie Wonder.

So remember, No bra? No Problem. Shades? Problem.

This has been an FTVLive public service announcement.

Shuffling Shows at CNN

Wolf-Post.jpg

It looks like my 2 hour nap time is being cut to 90 minutes.

On September 16th, CNN is cutting Wolf Blitzer's "The Situation Room" from two hours to 90 minutes.

Many a day when I was tired, I could flip to Wolf's show on CNN and fall fast asleep until it was over.

But now, CNN Boss Jeff Zucker has decided to knock a half hour of Blitzer's show and that's not the only change.

As CNN makes way for old/new Crossfire, changes are a coming.

Crossfire will air at 6:30PM and Anderson Cooper will now be live @ 10PM. That slot was were CNN was airing repeats of Coop's 8PM show.

Andy's 10M show will be called "AC360 Later" and CNN promises that Cooper will have a "provocative and informed panel conversation" on his new show.

We can hardly wait.

ND that Fired Bra-less Reporter is Quitting

WAAY (Huntsville) News Director Keith Lowhorner says he's leaving the television business.

This comes days after Lowhorner made the decision to fire Shea Allen.

Allen is the reporter that made gossip when she he personal confessions on her website.

Lowhorner claims that the Allen mess had nothing to do with him leaving the station. Instead of overseeing news staff, in his new job Lowhorner be in charge of plants. He is becoming the director of development at Huntsville Botanical Garden.

Last we looked, plants don't wear bras either.

With TW Blackout, CBS Ratings are Dropping

With TW Blackout, CBS Ratings are Dropping

CBS is watching their ratings fall with their pissing match with Time Warner.

Except for the Mentalist (But maybe those viewers are watching the show telepathically it is the Mentalist after all ).

Mediapost reports that on Sunday, three large stations experienced notable week-to-week drops in prime time. Household ratings by one metric dropped 27% in the New York market and 14% in Los Angeles, while falling 12% in Dallas.

Meanwhile, “Big Brother” took a huge hit in New York and Los Angeles, while “The Mentalist” cratered in Dallas. Yet somehow, “The Mentalist” actually increased its performance in Los Angeles.

On Sunday, WCBS in New York averaged a 3.2 in household ratings. That was down from a 4.4 the previous Sunday (July 28) before the blackouts -- accounting for a 27% decline.

More after the bounce.

He's a Woman, Now He's a Man...again

He's a Woman, Now He's a Man...again

ABC's Don Ennis changed his name to Dawn and became a woman. After 3 months, he's going back to being a man.

The NY Post reports that Ennis strolled into the newsroom in May wearing a little black dress and an auburn wig and announced he was transgender and splitting from his wife. He wanted to be called Dawn.

But now he says he suffered from a two-day bout of amnesia that has made him realize he wants to live his life again as Don.

“I accused my wife of playing some kind of cruel joke, dressing me up in a wig and bra and making fake ID’s with the name ‘Dawn’ on it. Seriously,” Ennis wrote in an e-mail to friends and colleagues Friday, explaining his shock after he woke up from what he called a “transient global amnesia” last month.

“It became obvious this was not the case once I took off the bra — and discovered two reasons I was wearing one,” he said, referring to his hormone-induced breasts.

“I thought it was 1999 . . . and I was sure as hell that I was a man,” Ennis said in the e-mail titled “Not Reportable, Very Confirmed.”

RNC's Hollow Threat to Boycott NBC News and CNN

rnc.png

The Republican National Committee is making a false threat to NBC News and CNN.

The RNC chairman Reince Priebus threatened to boycott NBC News and CNN during the 2016 debate season because of their planned productions about Hillary Clinton.

But, if the RNC wants to get their message out to swing voters, they need NBC and CNN more than the networks need the RNC.

If the RNC wants, they can just grant access to Fox News. But, the thing is the people that watch FNC are going to vote Republican anyway. So talking to FNC is akin to preaching to the choir.

It would be the same if the DNC claimed they were only going to grant access to MSNBC.

To garner the swing voters, you have to get your message out to the middle. Two of the better places to do that is NBC News and CNN.

The RNC is pissed because NBC Entertainment (NOT News) recently ordered a miniseries starring Diane Lane as Hilary Clinton. CNN also has a Clinton show in the works.

If some network runs the movie Lincoln, will the DNC object and cut off access to the network?

The RNC needs the media and they know it. They will not boycott CNN or NBC News. It is a hollow threat to try and get the GOP fired up.

Yes, they might boycott MSNBC, but those viewers are voting Democrat already. Plus no one watches MSNBC, so no big loss.

But the RNC will NOT follow through with their boycott of CNN or NBC News.

And you can take that to the bank.

CNN Confused on Pennsylvania Shooting

22d3714999b4896954595ad1790b53c7.jpeg

If you believe CNN, then bullets fired by a gunman near Philly, killed people all the way across the state in Pittsburgh.

CNN got confused when three people were killed and several more were wounded in a shooting at a town supervisors' meeting in eastern Pennsylvania.

The shooting occurred in Ross Township. A quick Wikipedia search shows that there are 3 Ross Townships in Pennsylvania.

CNN had a 1 in 3 chance in getting it right and they missed.

In a graphic repeated over and over, CNN erroneously reported that a fatal shooting had occurred at the Ross Township municipal building north of Pittsburgh.

The phone started ringing at the Ross Police Department outside of Pittsburgh and the Ross Municipal building after CNN reported, in the graphic, that the shooting occurred in the Ross Township north of Pittsburgh.

"We decided to issue a news release to clarify the situation," said Ross Detective Brian Kohlhepp. "CNN called and I told them it wasn't us, but the graphic was still on TV."

Kohlhepp said he talked to the network shortly after 8 p.m., but even an hour later, the incorrect graphic remained (picture).

While CNN has shown ratings growth under new boss Jeff Zucker, it appears that the network has been more prone to making mistakes in their reporting.

Which may mean that the network has adapted the old slogan "Never let the Facts get in the Way of a Good story."

Fired St. Louis Anchor Confident with Lawsuit

Fired St. Louis Anchor Confident with Lawsuit

Fired St. Louis Anchor Larry Conners thinks he has a good chance to win his age discrimination suit against KMOV, his old station.

Connors who was fired after posting on his Facebook page, is now using his Facebook page to update people on his legal battle with the station.

"KMOV management wanted to get rid of an older anchor and his salary," he posted.

Conners was terminated in May after writing a controversial post on his Facebook page questioning whether the IRS had targeted him in response to an interview he did with President Obama.

Station officials say they dropped him solely because that commentary violated the journalistic standards of the news organization, but Conners is alleging in court that his employers had been looking for an excuse to get rid of him for quite some time, in part because he alleged age discrimination in a past dispute.

Now, he's arguing that a Facebook policy that the station has cited does not even technically exist.
