Lester Holt Shanks Story on Pro Golfer

On last night's NBC Nightly News, Anchor Lester Holt had a brief story on PGA Tour player Hunter Mahan. 

Mahan was leading the Canadian Open after 2 rounds, when his wife called and told him she was going into labor.  

Mahan left the course and flew to Texas for the birth of his child.  If he won the event he was looking at a million dollar pay day. 

It was a human interest story that made for a 30 second VO on Sunday's Nightly News.  

It was obvious that the writer of the story and Lester Holt were not golfers.  

I can't find the video on NBC's website, but Holt basically said "Mahan had a commanding 2 shot lead in the Canadian Open..." "He was unstopped...." 

Holt then went on to talk about how he left the event to be with his wife.  

Here's where NBC bogeyed the story.

The event was 72 holes and Mahan left after 36 holes. A 2 shot lead could be lost in a single hole. Mahan still had two rounds to play. In fact the 36 hole leader loses more than he wins on the PGA Tour. Mahan was far from "unstoppable."

It was one of the interesting human interest stories and made a nice 30 second VO.

But for any golfer watching the story, it showed once again "media doesn't know what they are talking about."

It was a small thing, but it still is a hit to the credibility of the broadcast. 

Signing off in Seattle

KING veteran reporter and anchor Allen Schauffler signed off from the station last night.  

He's is going to be a "regional correspondent for a network."

In the story on KING's website, they did not say what the network was. A search shows that he is headed to Al Jazeera America. You have to wonder if Schauffler was headed to NBC, ABC or CNN if they would have named the network?

Schauffler joined the station in October 1992 as a weekend anchor and general reporter. 

“I had a mustache, brown hair. It was awesome,” said Allen. "Thankfully, the mustache left pretty quickly. The brown hair -- the last five years have been brutal on it, it's just gone.”

He says the hardest he worked in his years at KING was covering the Olympic games.

He covered seven of them. 

No word if he will get to cover the Olympic's at Al Jazeera? 

Korean TV Station Pokes Fun at KTVU (Updated)

A Korean TV station took a well deserved shot at  San Francisco's KTVU.

While reporting on the Southwest flight that a landing gear failure when it touched down in New York, the TV station came up with some names for the flight crew.

The Korean news agency showed this graphic with American pilot names “Captain Kent Parker Wright”, “Co-Captain Wyatt Wooden Workman”.

They even made up fake names for people to interview. Flight instructor “Heywood U. Flye-Moore” and skeptical passenger “Macy Lawyers”.

So far, KTVU has no comment.  

Update: FTVLive was sent the picture with the story. But as a few of you pointed out, this is obviously a photoshop job. Why would Korean TV have english fonts? Also, after we posted it, we wondered why Korean TV has the Nasdaq numbers?  

We could have taken the story down and acted like it was never there, but then we would be doing the same thing KTVU is doing by trying to delete the video off YouTube.

Two people emailed the story and a number of people tweeted about it. But yeah...it's fake.

Could Hoda be Changing Her View?

Is Hoda Kotb ready to give up her seat next to Kathie Lee Gifford for a different View?

Page Six says that NBC could be up for another battle with ABC, this time over popular “Today” show co-host Hoda Kotb — who sources tell Page Six is being eyed by ABC as a potential new co-host for “The View.”

Kotb — who sits alongside Kathie Lee Gifford to host the bubbly fourth hour of the “Today” show, “Kathie Lee & Hoda” — has been mentioned by ABC chiefs as a possible replacement for longtime “View” host Joy Behar, who’s exiting the show after 16 years.

A source told us “The View” is “very interested” in Kotb and has already reached out to her camp.

The fourth hour is a ratings hit for “Today,” while the earlier programming blocks have fought hard to keep viewers in the wake of last year’s awkward dismissal of Ann Curry.

Insiders believe NBC would hustle to keep its Kotb/Gifford partnership intact.

A source close to Kotb told us: “Hoda loves her job at ‘Today’ and she’s very happy laughing and scratching with Kathie Lee every day.”

And a rep for ABC insisted of any move to bring Kotb over to the network, “There’s absolutely zero truth to this whatsoever.”

Blip: Hannity and Limbaugh to Be Dropped in 40 Markets

It could be a negotiation ploy, or it could be real.

But as of now Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh are going to be dropped from radio stations in 40 large markets at the end of the year. 

Ouch!

Bounced Palm Beach Anchor Now Selling Homes

Two years after WPEC refused to renew his anchorman’s contract Curt Fonger has reappeared in a new gig.

He's giving real estate a try.

“It was time to reinvent myself,” Fonger told Gossip Extra. “Viewers kept asking me when I’d be back on the air, but no television station manager asked the same question. So, I’m looking for listings.”

Fonger who spent 25 years in the Palm Beach market was pushed out when his contract was not renewed.  

The Anchor spent the last part of his career anchoring the news while wearing a bow tie. 

While he thought the bow tie was a good schtick, a number of viewers thought it was corny and more than bit tired. 

With the housing market heating back up, Fonger is ready to try his hand a real estate. 

And he's still using the goofy bow tie as a prop.

Someone needs to tell Fonger it's 2013.   Check out video of Fonger pimping his new gig and showing you how to tie a bow tie. Why?!

The Today Show Beats GMA

The Today Show has finally beat Good Morning America and it wasn't even close. 

But it didn't happen in the ratings, it happened in Central Park on the softball diamond.  

The Today Show beat GMA 21-0 in softball. 

This would go down as a good old fashion ass beating. 

Cleveland Monster Takes Plea Deal

It's good news for the 3 women that were held captive by Cleveland monster Ariel Castro. 

It's bad news for Nancy Grace. 

Castro has taken a plea deal in his kidnapping and rape case. The deal is life without parole, not less than 1000 years.  

It means there will not be a trial (that sound you hear is Nancy Grace weeping uncontrollably). 

The deal means Castro die in prison but he won't get the death penalty.

The cable nets were looking forward to the trail for this piece of shit, but it isn't going to happen. 

The good news... the victims will not be paraded into a courtroom and have to relive the awful things that Castro did to them.
