Bounced Palm Beach Anchor Now Selling Homes

curt_fonger_tie-630x510.jpg

Two years after WPEC refused to renew his anchorman’s contract Curt Fonger has reappeared in a new gig.

He's giving real estate a try.

“It was time to reinvent myself,” Fonger told Gossip Extra. “Viewers kept asking me when I’d be back on the air, but no television station manager asked the same question. So, I’m looking for listings.”

Fonger who spent 25 years in the Palm Beach market was pushed out when his contract was not renewed.

The Anchor spent the last part of his career anchoring the news while wearing a bow tie.

While he thought the bow tie was a good schtick, a number of viewers thought it was corny and more than bit tired.

With the housing market heating back up, Fonger is ready to try his hand a real estate.

And he's still using the goofy bow tie as a prop.

Someone needs to tell Fonger it's 2013.   Check out video of Fonger pimping his new gig and showing you how to tie a bow tie. Why?!

Cleveland Monster Takes Plea Deal

Screen Shot 2013-07-26 at 11.13.33 AM.png

It's good news for the 3 women that were held captive by Cleveland monster Ariel Castro.

It's bad news for Nancy Grace.

Castro has taken a plea deal in his kidnapping and rape case. The deal is life without parole, not less than 1000 years.

It means there will not be a trial (that sound you hear is Nancy Grace weeping uncontrollably).

The deal means Castro die in prison but he won't get the death penalty.

The cable nets were looking forward to the trail for this piece of shit, but it isn't going to happen.

The good news... the victims will not be paraded into a courtroom and have to relive the awful things that Castro did to them.

The Deuce is Dumped in Palm Beach

steve_boyer.jpg

WPBF Assistant News Director Steve Boyer is gone from the station, yet no one is confirming it.

Word is the long-time Deuce was escorted out of the station’s newsroom after being given 10 minutes to clean out his desk.

And while he is gone and hasn't been seen, staffers at the ABC affiliate haven’t been told a thing.

“It’s like having a relative who died,” said a newsroom staffer to Gossip Extra. “Everybody knows he’s gone, but nobody’s talking about it or even asking management.”

Neither Station Manager Caroline Taplett nor News Director Paige Harrison are returning calls about Boyer, and the station has not announced the move to the public.

Boyer himself is no returning calls either.

Gossip Extra reports that Boyer was walked out a week after one of his employees spotted him having drinks at The Breakers in Palm Beach with a hot female applicant for a weather forecaster’s job.

“Steve had been told by management to act more professionally toward applicants,” the insider added.

Back on February 8th FTVLive told you about a Husband of a WPBF job applicate that claimed Boyer had a 4 month affair with his wife.

Former TV Anchor May Run for Congress

3close0429.jpg

When you're a former TV Anchor, you may miss the spotlight, or miss working. But, it's hard to be qualified to really do anything.

In your last job as a TV anchor, you just needed to look good, read what other people wrote and blow a bunch of hot air.

What other job besides TV news, does these talents qualify you for?

Congress!

Former WCCO (Minneapolis) news anchor Don Shelby is weighing a run against three-term Republican Rep. Erik Paulsen next year.

Although Shelby has not tipped his hand as of yet.

“I’ve been asked,” Shelby said “I’m flattered. It’s worth thinking about, but I haven’t in any way made up my mind.”

Added Shelby: “It’s not unusual … I’ve been asked 30 times in the past to run for public office from all three parties.”

Democrats have been tight-lipped about Shelby’s possible entry into the race, but they made clear Thursday that they would welcome a respected Twin Cities figure with almost universal name recognition across the state.

Stay tuned....

CBS, Time Warner Extend Deadline

Screen Shot 2013-07-26 at 6.56.16 AM.png

Your cable bills will continue to go up, because cable companies want to get as much money from you as they can and TV stations want to dig deep into your pocket as well.

CBS has been locked in a retransmission with Time Warner Cable.

CBS wants Time Warner to pay them more to carry their channels. Which in reality means, CBS wants us to pay more to watch their channels.

Both sides have set deadlines which they continue to push back. The latest deadline is now Monday at 5PM.

Media companies see the retans fees as a way to offset the lower advertising dollars they get for the shrinking viewership watching their channels.

Retrans fees are like free money for a media company.

There is no "good guy" in these retrans fight. Both sides want you to pay them as much money as they can get for you.

Eventually, the fight between CBS and Time Warner will end. CBS will not get as much money as they wanted and Time Warner will have to pay more than they wanted.

They will sign a new deal for 3 to 5 years and then the entire thing will happen all over again when the deal ends.

In those 3-5 years you will see your cable bill increase and it will cost you more money out of your pocket.

That's why more and more people are cutting the cord and hoping that companies like Aereo take off.

The money grubbing cable and media companies are sending the TV industry down the same path as newspapers.

But unfortunately they don't see it because the dollar signs are blocking their view.

Pittsburgh Anchoring Quitting to....

Pittsburgh Anchoring Quitting to....

....Spend more time with her family.

After 20 years WPXI anchor Darieth Chisolm says she is leaving the station.

Ms. Chisolm, who joined the station in 1993 as an anchor and reporter, said she had been planning to do so for a long time.

"It's been a great opportunity to be here for the last 20 years but this is my son's last year before he goes off to college and I want to spend as much time with him as possible," Ms. Chisolm said of her son, Tre Tarpley.

This will also go down as the first time in history that a high school senior boy will be spending more time with his mother.

More on her plans after the jump.

Did you ever wonder what the news anchors doing during the weather segment?

That don't pay attention to the weather anchor that's for sure.

On Wednesday, thanks to a bad punch, KXAS (Dallas) news anchors Brian Curtis and Kristi Nelson got caught on camera during Meteorologist Rick Mitchell's weather forecast.

Notice as they both see themselves on air in the monitors in the desk.

The Zimmerman Heavy July Book in O-Town

The Zimmerman Heavy July Book in O-Town

Let me fill you in on a little secret. The July ratings book means absolutely nothing. It's a throw away book that neither TV stations nor advertisers really care about.

But, with the George Zimmerman trial going on in Orlando during the book, we thought it would be interesting looking at the ratings for that market.

With all Zimmerman all the time as basically the only thing that was covered in July, WFTV was the clear ratings winner.

The station was No. 1 spot at 5 p.m. which was a race they did not win in the last book. The ABC affiliate continued their winning ways at 6 a.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Fox station WOFL-Channel 35 was the dominant No. 1 in the 10 p.m. news race.

WESH offered the favorite newscast at 4 p.m., easily topping WFTV which just started up a 4PM newscast.

At 6 p.m. weekdays, WFTV topped the demos. The station averaged nearly 31,000 viewers to WESH's 26,900, WOFL's 24,800 and WKMG's 17,400.

More number crunching after the hop.

Yawn...Robin Roberts Lands Zimmerman Juror

r-ROBIN-ROBERTS-large570.jpg

GMA's Robin Roberts has landed one of the jurors from the George Zimmerman trial for an interview that will air on tomorrow's Good Morning America and throughout the day on other ABC News programs.

CNN's Anderson Cooper already talked to juror B37 on CNN the day after the trail Roberts has now moved down a couple of numbers and will talk to juror B29.

While Coop's juror concealed her identity, B29 is not doing so with Roberts.

The juror goes by the mane of Maddy and she was the only minority that served on the Zimmerman jury.

While the media might still be obsessed with the Zimmerman trial most of the public has moved on. Heck we have a royal baby and the Weiner scandal now.

So the question remains, is Roberts' big get really that big?

Getting a Foot up on the Competition

Screen Shot 2013-07-25 at 10.13.26 AM.png

This might give new meaning to "putting you foot in your mouth."

An Arizona woman went to Safeway and while checking out packages of chicken breast, she found one with a bonus.

One package had not only the breasts but a chicken foot as well.

Screen Shot 2013-07-25 at 10.19.30 AM.png

After sending out the tweet, she had hoped the store would remove the package containing the foot. They didn't so she turned to the news media.

It appears CBS News was interested in the story.:

Must be a slow news day.
