Now, the Arizona Daily Star writes that, Garsee who co-anchored KOLD's nightly news program for nearly a decade, died over the weekend at his home in Virginia.
His death at age 50 came as a surprise to all who knew him, said Kris Pickel, who teamed with Garsee on the anchor desk.
"I'm in shock, as a lot of his friends are. We can't believe this happened," said Pickel, now a news co-anchor at a Cleveland television station. "He was an eloquent man and prolific writer. Just a hell of a guy. I was lucky to be paired up with him," Pickel said.

For the second time in less than a week, a WFLA Tampa Weather Anchor has announced they are leaving for Texas.
Weekend morning meteorologist Megan Hatton will leave her job at a the NBC affiliate in three weeks, departing the same month fellow forecaster Brooks Garner is also to leave the station.

Read MoreIt looks like Keith Olbermann's lawsuit against Current TV has been settled in a back room deal.
The Hollywood Reporter says that Olbermann has resolved the $50 million legal dispute with Current TV over his firing from the network.
A settlement is said to have been reached during a private mediation session in San Francisco on Tuesday. Terms of the deal will not be disclosed. Olbermann and Current, who sued each other in April 2012 over his dismissal from the liberal-leaning network, are expected to file court documents soon dismissing the case.
Calls to reps for Current and Olbermann were not immediately returned.
The Networks were scrambling early this morning after Black Smoke came billowing out of the Sistine Chapel after another vote was cast for a new Pope.
The Black Smoke means either they don't have a new Pope, or one of the Cardinals left the popcorn in the microwave too long.

Sources tell FTVLive that former KOLD Anchor Randy Garsee has died.
Not much information has to how he died. His family left this message on his Facebook page after people started posting their condolences:
"Thank you all for your condolences, but out of respect for our family, please allow our family to mourn without the posts / comments on FB at this time. Thank you!"
Garsee was the anchor at KOLD for a decade, he was fired after sending and email to another station in town, complaining about his News Director.
WGRZ Anchor/Reporter Pete Gallivan is leaving the Gannett station and getting out of TV News.
Gallivan, who has been at the NBC affiliate for 17 years, is going to work in the communications department in Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Buffalo office.
"It all came together really quickly," said Gallivan. Gallivan gave his two-week notice today and was told by station management that today would be his last day because he is going into a political job that might conflict with news reporting.

WCBS Reporter Sean Hennessey is ankling his way out the door at WCBS in New Yourk.
But Hennessey isn't headed for another job in TV news, he's going back to college. Not to study, but to teach.
FishbowlNY reports he's headed to Boston College, which makes sense for the BC graduate. He got his B.A. in English in 1987 at the Chestnut Hill campus, according to his LinkedIn page.

Patricia Fili-Krushel, the new chairman of the NBCUniversal News Group, which includes not only NBC News but also cable channels MSNBC and CNBC.
In one of her first interviews since taking the job last July, Fili-Krushel acknowledges to the LA Times that the network mishandled the Vieira-Curry-Guthrie transition. But she added that even without that fiasco the show had become too complacent and protective of its No. 1 perch.
