Scripps Stations Look to the (very near) Future

After a successful test in the Phoenix market, Scripps has decided to launch Roku channels for each of its TV stations over the next month or so.

It is likely that the app will move to other devices soon and Scripps affiliates will be responsible for curating their own channels, although they largely will follow the model used by KNXV.

The best part of the service? Stations will air live streams of their newscasts, which will be huge for cord cutters.

“We’re positioning ourselves to be the local news brands to turn to on all of the digital platforms, including over-the-top television,” says Adam Symson, Scripps’ senior VP and chief digital officer.

“We’re obviously very focused on the OTT platform,” he said, adding that distributing content over-the-top “is as important for our local brands.”
