WCBS Claims Late News for First Time Ever

WCBS in NY did something that they have never done, they knocked WABC off the ratings throne at 11PM.

WCBS topped WABC for the first time ever in the Feb Book.

Here is the memo that WCBS VP of News David Friend sent out to the staff:

Good Morning,

Congratulations on a momentous month!

All of our newscasts were successful, but I want to single out our late news.

We ended February in first place in households and adults 25-54, Monday – Sunday and Monday – Friday.  This is the first time since the NY market became LPM that WCBS beat WABC!

In Adults 25-54, this is the first time ever that WCBS is #1!

The competition in New York is fierce and a first place finish is a huge accomplishment.

Kristine, Maurice, Lonnie, Otis, Cindy, Elise and Steve should take a bow along with the reporters and photogs who work night side.

Special congratulations to Cathy Shallcross, Megan Swezey, Tara Cifarelli, Ken “Choppy” Racioppi, Lee Grossman,  Jennifer Hancox, Robbie Sosa, Sarah Kim, Clay Parker, Jason Hark, Mary McGeever, Stephanie Cassell, Pam Tighe, John Applegate, Heather Talerico and all the managers, writers, video editors, desk editors, technicians, the weather, sports and web teams who worked day and night to get us to first place.

They really do live and breathe the late news and their dedication has paid off.

I would love to be with you all to celebrate this truly fantastic feat, but I’m on vacation in sunny Tel Aviv.  I’ll be back next week to congratulate everyone in person.

I’m very proud of you all and you should be very proud of yourselves.

Please enjoy lunch and dinner today and breakfast tomorrow morning.

 Best,
David M. Friend
