Matt Lauer Gets a Thumbs Down for Red Carpet Work

The Golden Globes were broadcast on NBC last night and Matt Lauer was not getting high marks for his working on the red carpet.

Page Six writes that viewers weren’t too impressed with “Today” show host's interviewing skills.

The anchor spoke to stars like Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith and Harrison Ford ahead of the 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards, but plenty of viewers took to social media to criticize Lauer’s questions.

Lauer teamed up with his “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie to chat with the stars, and Amy Schumer livened up the interviews by poking fun at Lauer.

He told Schumer her interview was on a 20-second delay and she quipped: “All Matt Lauer can do is 20 seconds.”

Schumer’s sister then had an uncomfortable exchange with Lauer. He told her she looked beautiful to which she replied, “Thank you, that’s all I care about.”

On top of that, Guthrie and Lauer struggled with some technical glitches. During Will Smith’s interview, Lauer and Guthrie could be heard clearly but the microphone did not pick up Smith’s voice. The same thing happened during Ford’s interview.

Some viewers also commented on Lauer’s tendency to ask yes-or-no questions to the stars. When he chatted with Jennifer Lawrence, he asked her if she could sum up the past five years. Lawrence said she could not.
