Left Coast Anchor to Sign Off

KSBY Anchor Jeanette Trompeter says that she is leaving the station.

But viewers will have a longtime to say goodbye.

Trompeter has set March 2016 as her date to leave the San Luis Obispo station and start to "pursue side projects."

Trompeter will start working on a part-time basis in December, with her last day at the end of March, KSBY president and general manager Kathleen Choal confirmed Thursday.

“While we are disappointed to see Jeanette leave, KSBY fully supports her decision,” Choal says.

Trompeter said she will spend the transition time focusing on her business, Ruby Shoes Wine Club, and seeing if she wants to pursue that full-time.

“It’s just one of those ‘leap and the net shall appear’ moments in my life,” she said. “And in my experience, though they are scary at the time, they tend to be the ones that lead to wonderful things in hindsight.”

Choal said the news outlet has already begun a search for her replacement, both internally and nationwide, but at this time they do not have a timeline for when her replacement will begin work.

“Jeanette’s broadcast journey came full circle when we were fortunate enough to have her return to KSBY-TV and the Central Coast six years ago,” Choal said. “While that amazing journey is coming to an end for now, we know our viewers will miss Jeanette being in their homes each night just as much as we will miss having her in the newsroom every day.”

Trompeter got her start in the news industry with KSBY in 1991 after graduating from Cal Poly. She later worked with news outlets in Des Moines and Minneapolis before returning to KSBY in January 2010.
