Expanding the News in Nashville

More news expansion is happening and this time it's in the music city.

Starting Aug. 4, WZTV FOX 17 is adding an hour of local news programming to its daily schedule, the station announced this week.

FOX 17’s morning show, “FOX 17 This Morning,” will begin at 4:30 a.m. and run until 9 a.m. Previously, the show started at 5 a.m.

The station will also add a half-hour 5:30 p.m. local news segment. It will become the only major local news station to broadcast local news programming at 5:30 p.m. WSMV-TV, WTVF-TV and WKRN-TV air NBC, CBS and ABC network news, respectively, at that time.

According to WZTV News director Bryan McGruder, the expanded schedule will provide more convenience for viewers who wake up earlier or have less time in their schedules.

“We intend to be there for them with this expanded news time,” he said.
