Turning the Page

KTRK (Houston) Helicopter Reporter Tammy Rose is grounding herself, sort of.

Rose took to social media to say that she is “turning the page” after 30 years in TV news.

“Over the past year, my workload has doubled as more of you have sent me tips and asked me to investigate stories that matter to you. I’ve realized that you simply cannot tell an important story in 30 seconds,” Rose said in a post, adding, “Our industry is changing. More journalists are becoming independent, giving them the freedom to go behind the headlines, ask difficult questions, and take the time to uncover the full story.”

”That is the kind of journalism I want to do for you,” Rose said in her post online.

She told viewers that she has made the “difficult decision to retire from daily helicopter reporting. My final day covering Houston from the air will be October 2.”

But, she adds, she is not retiring from journalism. “I’ll continue bringing you true crime, aviation, and investigative stories through Tammy Rose Reports. I’ll travel to find the stories that matter to you—sometimes from the air and sometimes on the ground,” she wrote.

As more journalists are being stretched thin due to corporate moves and cuts, they are looking to move to independent journalism. That seems to be the future of the journalism industry.
