The Ratings Are In and it Wasn't Even Close

Donald Trump took to Truth Social right after his GOP midterm convention speech in Dallas to brag that his television ratings completely blew away the NFL season kickoff.

There’s just one small problem: the actual Nielsen ratings exist.

According to Nielsen data, Trump’s claim wasn’t just a little exaggerated—it was completely detached from reality.

The NFL season opener clobbered the competition, drawing an audience north of 25 million viewers.

Meanwhile, Trump’s 105-minute keynote address pulled in roughly 3 million viewers total, with about 2.5 million of those tuning in via Fox News. Major broadcast networks and other cable news channels opted out of carrying the full marathon speech live.

To put that in perspective, Trump’s convention address pulled fewer viewers than standard weeknight episodes of Hannity or Gutfeld!.

In the television business, claiming a 3-million audience beat a 25-million football broadcast isn't spin, it’s pure fantasy.

Football remains the undisputed king of live television. Politics, on a Wednesday night opposite the NFL, didn't even make it onto the field.
