Leaving TV News to Reconnect with Herself

After 10 years with The Firm, WJBK (Detroit) Reporter Kellie Rowe has decided to leave the station.

Her plan is to “heal, slow down and reconnect with herself”.

This was her post to social media.

After 10 incredible years at FOX 2, it’s time for me to say goodbye.

FOX 2 has been my home since shortly after graduating from Michigan State. I grew up there, both professionally and personally. Over the years I had the chance to do just about every job in the newsroom — anchoring, sports, traffic, weather, reporting, I tried it all. From covering Tigers Spring Training in Florida to partnering with Michigan Humane to showcase adoptable dogs at the Auto Show, there are far too many memories to count.

Leaving isn’t an easy decision, but I knew it was time. To be candid, I have some healing to do. My goal is to slow down, reconnect with myself, and learn to appreciate a quieter life. I don’t know what’s next, but I’m so thankful for a support system that’s giving me the time to figure it out. I am looking forward to meeting the best version of myself. I plan to share that journey here because I think other people need to hear it, too. It’s easy to think everyone else has life figured out, especially online, but I think we’re all craving authenticity and real connections more than ever.

If you’ve watched me over the years, thank you for allowing me to grow up in front of you. Thank you for welcoming me into your homes, stopping me on the street to say hi, sharing your stories with me, laughing with me, and allowing me to be part of your mornings. I promise I never took it for granted. Please, if you feel so inclined, still say hi if you ever see me — I’d just love that. I genuinely adore those conversations, they’ve always been my favorite part of it all. Also please bully the Weather Boys in my absence, they really need it.

FOX 2 has shaped so much of who I am, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities I’ve had and the people who believed in me along the way. This isn’t goodbye. It’s just the beginning of my next adventure, and I hope you’ll come along.
