Scripps Slashes Staff, Former Meteorologist Says ‘Scripps Sucks’

As another round of major layoffs at Scripps has left local stations reeling, and one former employee isn't holding back.

Scripps CEO Adam Symson continues to treat local staff like disposable pawns on a chessboard, executing another wave of job cuts across the company's stations. In a boilerplate statement, Symson claimed the company’s mission remains unchanged, to "create connection through trusted news and information"a line that feels increasingly hollow to the staff left behind and the communities losing local coverage.

Former KJRH (Tulsa) meteorologist Mike Collier didn't mince words when reacting to the news.

“Scripps sucks. Plain and simple,” Collier posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Collier, who left the NBC affiliate to launch his own independent media brand, MCWX, covering weather in eastern Oklahoma, confirmed on Facebook that his former station was among those hit by this latest round of corporate downsizing.

“Praying for my friends at KJRH,” Collier added. “Just awful to see local television being torn apart.”
