They Use to Compete Against each other, Now These Anchors Have Teamed Up

Back in the glory days of Boston local TV news, sports fans usually fell into one of two camps: you either watched Bob Lobel on WBZ or Mike Lynch on WCVB.

For decades, they were two of the biggest sports anchors in New England, battling head-to-head for ratings every single night.

Now, the two former crosstown rivals are officially joining forces.

Lobel and Lynch have launched a new joint podcast, bringing together two of the most recognizable and beloved voices in Boston broadcasting history.

Lobel spent over 30 years as the lead sports anchor at CBS owned-and-operated WBZ-TV, becoming a household name with his signature style and classic catchphrases. Lynch anchored the sports desk at ABC affiliate WCVB-TV for nearly four decades, standardizing local sports coverage and founding the station's iconic "High 5" high school sports feature.

While they spent late nights competing for viewers across Market #7, the two veteran sportscasters maintained a long-standing friendship off-camera. Now, they’re sitting down behind the microphones together to break down current New England sports, trade behind-the-scenes stories, and reflect on their decades in local television.

In a era where local stations keep trimming sports blocks out of their newscasts, it’s great to see two legends of the desk keeping the craft alive on their own terms.
