Give Him the Hook

After more than three decades behind the desk, longtime anchor John Hook is calling it a career.

Hook announced he is retiring from Fox O&O KSAZ in Phoenix, wrapping up a 33-year run at the station and 43 years total in broadcasting. His final newscast is scheduled for September 14.

Hook arrived at KSAZ back in August 1993, when the station was still a CBS affiliate prior to the major Fox affiliation switch in late 1994. Over the next three decades, he became the station’s primary face, anchoring main newscasts and hosting the public affairs program Newsmaker from 1994 through 2026.

He started in television at KREX in Grand Junction, Colorado, before an eight-year stint reporting and anchoring at KVOA in Tucson. He moved up to the Phoenix market in 1993 and stayed put at KSAZ ever since.

He was stuck anchoring next to his former co-anchor Kari Lake, a two time losing political candidate, who was later appointed and fired reassigned by Donald Trump.

Hook signs off in the middle of next month.
