CBS News Reporter Hit with Harassment Lawsuit

It didn't take long for the honeymoon to hit a major speed bump for Matt Gutman over at the Tiffany Network.

Gutman, who spent nearly two decades at ABC News before jumping ship to CBS News earlier this year as a marquee hire, is now named in an explosive lawsuit alleging sexual harassment and a toxic workplace environment.

The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court by former ABC News field producer Samira Said. While the bulk of the wrongful termination suit targets ABC News and its parent company, The Walt Disney Company, Gutman finds himself squarely in the legal crosshairs.

According to the complaint, Said claims Gutman made inappropriate sexual remarks during multiple field assignments while both were at the Mouse House.

In one alleged incident, the lawsuit claims Gutman openly discussed another female correspondent’s appearance while waiting in line with the crew, reducing her professional credentials to a crude numerical rating based on her physical looks—and then tried to get other crew members to chime in.

In another cited encounter during a movie press junket, the suit alleges Gutman made a sexualized crack about Said in front of colleagues, insinuating she was slipping away for an after-hours hookup.

Said claims she was ultimately pushed out by ABC in 2025 after facing mental health struggles and being denied medical leave.

Gutman was hailed as the first major on-air splash under the new CBS News leadership regime when he joined in January. Before the jump, his long tenure at ABC wasn't without drama—most notably his 2020 on-air suspension after erroneously reporting that all four of Kobe Bryant’s children were killed in the fatal helicopter crash.

So far, both CBS News and Gutman have kept their heads down, telling outlets they have yet to formally review the filing.

Stay tuned. When lawsuits start flying with high-profile network correspondents named on page one, the PR spin machines rarely stay quiet for long.
