One Out of Two
/WPVI, the ABC O&O in Philly, posted this to their social media. They got half of it right.
Yes, the declaration of independence was signed in Philly, but it did not happen on July 4th. For those of you that paid attention in your 5th grade history class, you know that the declaration of independence August 2, 1776.
While the Continental Congress officially adopted the text of the Declaration on July 4, 1776, it took nearly a month for an official "engrossed" copy to be handwritten on parchment. On August 2, 56 congressional delegates began signing this engrossed document, with a few additional delegates adding their signatures as late as 1781.
But hey, why let the facts get in the way of your story?
