Security Breach at 30 Rock
/If you think working in a high-profile network morning show studio is safe, think again.
Sources say a major security breach went down at NBC's 30 Rockefeller Center this morning, right inside the Today show studios.
An unidentified man managed to completely bypass NBC security and slip into a restricted area near Studio 1A just after 9:00 AM. According to police, the man originally asked for Al Roker. When he couldn't find Roker, he lunged at co-anchor Craig Melvin, hurling a racial slur at him.
The NYPD was called at 9:19 AM and placed the "disorderly person" into custody. Thankfully, no one was injured.
The incident never made it to air, and both Melvin and Roker were back on the screen just 15 minutes later acting like nothing happened. NBC has—big surprise—remained tight-lipped about the entire situation.
But this raises a massive question: How does a random guy just walk past NBC’s high-priced security apparatus and get close enough to lunge at a main anchor?
The network allegedly beefed up security earlier this year, but clearly, there are still gaping holes in the system.
