Goodbye to Grandma

Many will argue that sports doesn’t get enough time in the local newscasts.

Yet, with the NBA Finals, the Stanley Cup Finals, the UFC on the White House lawn, and so much more, the argument might have a bit more teeth these days.

But, at Nexstar’s KLRT (Little Rock) Sports Anchor Courtney Minns took up nearly 1:15 of her sportscast to announce that her grandma had passed away.

“There weren't enough words or time to talk about what my grandma meant to me tonight, I just knew I had to dedicate the show to her,” Minns wrote on social media.

While we certainly feel for the Sports Anchor, as losing a family member is never easy, I’m not sure it has a place, taking up a large chuck of the sportscast.

The show goes on and it doesn’t have to be about you or your family. The tribute could have been done in a social media post, where you could have “enough words” and “enough time” to say fully what you want.
