The Perfect Trap

I’ll be honest, I have never thought Norah O’Donnell was what I consider a great journalist. I always got the feeling that she lacked the chops of other greats, such as Diane Sawyer, Jane Pauley, or others.

But, on Sunday night’s 60 Minutes, O’Donnell set the perfect trap for Donald Trump, and he walked right into it.

O’Donnell sat down with Trump in the wake of the incident at the White House Correspondents Dinner, and at one point, she read from what is claimed to be the suspect’s manifesto. She quoted, “…I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes.”

She then asked Trump about what the suspect said.

Trump, of course, got pissed at O’Donnell, saying that he knew she was going to read the manifesto and called her horrible. But, then he outed himself.

Trump said, “I’m not a rapist, I didn’t rape anyone…”

You see, the manifesto, nor O’Donnell, never said that the pedophile or rapist was Donald Trump. Yet, Trump was defensively sitting there, claiming he never raped anyone. It was a telling quote, given the fact that no one had named him.

“Oh, you think he was referring to you…” O’Donnell said.

It was perfect questioning.
