Hot Lead Served up at WHCD

The White House Correspondents Dinner on Saturday night was supposed to be a chance for the media to dress up, take lots of selfies, and listen to the President of the United States say how awful the “fake news media is.”

But before Trump could start buying the media, a California man crashed the area outside the ballroom. Shots were fired, and the dinner became chaos.

The suspect never made it into the ballroom. He was tackled outside and handcuffed.

Before the scene cleared, the incident was being turned into political finger-pointing.

Kari Lake went on the Trump Propaganda channel and blamed journalists for the incident.

The MAGA crowd posted that this incident was the reason the White House needed the Trump ballroom. It was like they were all sent the same talking points before the crime scene was even cleared.

Even after the shots were fired, it didn’t stop some people from posting a duck-face selfie, even if her information was wrong.

The WHCD is often referred to as the nerd prom. While many wanted to make the reporting about themselves, at least a few people at the dinner used the commotion to steal the alcohol, or at least take selfies with it.

I’m in the camp that thinks journalists should never mix in a social setting with the people that they cover. I may be in the minority, but your job as a journalist is to cover the politicians in DC and not eat and drink with them.

This was a chaotic event, that thankfully ended fairly safely, with few injuries. Now, the entire event will be used as a political football by both sides and will lead to more name-calling and division of the American people.

All set up by a dinner hosted by the media.

Maybe it is time to end this dog and pony show that lost its way many years ago.

Just saying…
