Uncle Perry Talks at NAB

Perry Sook could sell bubble gum in the lock-jaw ward at Bellevue.

Sook sat down with Deborah Norville at NAB, and she asked the Nexstar CEO whether owning multiple stations in a market hurts news diversity.

"If we maintain the status quo, newsrooms will close. I don’t close newsrooms, I just move them into one building,” Sook answered.

So, in reality, he did not answer the question that was asked, which is no surprise and Perry Sook is a big fan of Donald Trump, who does the exact same thing.

If you take two independent newsrooms, owned by different companies, put them under one owner and then combine the two newsrooms into one, didn’t you effectively close a newsroom?

Yes, you did.

Because now the viewers in the market are only getting news from one source instead of two.

Perry Sook dodged the question, only because he knew the answer was YES, it hurts news diversity.

Uncle Perry can sidestep the question all he wants, but journalists know the answer.
