Congregating and Screaming
/WJLA, Sinclair’s flagship station reported on Monday morning’s newscast that a large group of young people were seen gathering and running.
No one was hurt, no stores broken into. "A group of people congregating and screaming," as one interviewee put it.
"Police came, crowds dispersed, no one was arrested," The WJLA Reporter said in the story. Four kids were arrested in another area, but not where the incident the station reported on happened.
So, kids showed up, no one hurt, no one arrested, and the story lead the newscast. If this is the top "crime" story in a city of 700,000, I'd think D.C. was the safest place to live in America.
But, when you watch the video, you see quite possibly the reason the Sinclair station made this the top story. You see, most of the kids that were “congregating and screaming,” were Black. Everyone the station interview on camera and the Reporter were not Black.
I wonder, if this was a group on White kids, do you think it would have been the lead story, or a story at all?
I mean, after all, this is Sinclair we’re talking about.
Just saying…
