How Low Can You Go?
/She went from highly watched Fox News, to the little watched CNN, and now to Scripps?
For a company like Scripps, which has been aggressively trimming its sails and cutting costs across its news division, the hire of a high-profile veteran like Alisyn Camerota is an interesting, if unexpected, pivot. After her tenure at both Fox News and CNN ended with her departure from the latter in late 2024, Camerota is now attempting to reinvent her brand under what she calls "different rules" at a significantly smaller outlet.
Her move to Scripps News as a special events anchor centers on a limited six-episode streaming series titled "Connected with Alisyn Camerota." Instead of the fast-paced political sparring that defined much of her career, this project leans into the currently popular "trauma-adjacent" interview format. The show features half-hour sits-downs with figures who have faced high-stakes or emotionally draining ordeals, such as former colleague Don Lemon, Everclear singer Art Alexakis, Judge Esther Salas, and former Representative Gabby Giffords.
While the series brings a recognizable face to the Scripps streaming platform, the limited episode count and specific focus suggest a move toward lower-overhead, personality-driven content rather than a return to the expensive, resource-heavy daily news cycles Camerota once anchored. It remains to be seen if a prestige-heavy approach can provide the necessary ROI for a network that has been notably cash-strapped in recent years.
