Longtime Nexstar Anchor Turns Down Renewal Offer

Sherry Swensk is leaving KLAS, the Nexstar-owned station in Las Vegas, on April 16. Swensk has been with the CBS affiliate since July 1994, primarily serving as a weather reporter and co-anchor for the "Good Day Las Vegas" morning newscast. Her career at the station has spanned over 30 years.

Swensk’s contract expired in January, and following discussions with station management, she claims she made the decision not to renew. “I just was very honest, and I said, ‘You know, I’m kind of starting to feel some changes, and the TV industry is changing, and I’m moving in a different direction,’” says Swensk, recovering from shoulder surgery at the time. “I just feel like the time is right for me to make that decision. They would love it if I’d stay. If I had enough gas in the tank, I would.”

During her tenure at KLAS, Swensk anchored a five-hour daily broadcast block. She noted that the decision to leave was made in consultation with her husband, Larry Klein, citing a desire to focus on personal storytelling and reflecting on her life in Las Vegas. Swensk intends to share accounts of her career and personal experiences, which included significant life events and family losses during her three decades at the station.
