I Don't Want the Be The Center of the Story...BUT
/Speaking of the Nancy Guthrie story, let’s turn to the social media posts of KOLD (Tucson) Anchor Mary Coleman.
Coleman and her station, like all the other local stations have been covering the Guthrie story and all the developments.
Coleman made a post in which she starts off by saying, “One of the top rules of being a journalist is never becoming the story.”
The post then goes on to talk about her, her feelings and includes a selfie of her as the picture.
It did not end there.
Then she felt the need to point out that she was on CNN.
For someone to say that the story should not be about you, she sure spends a lot of time making it about her.
How is this story different than the other tragedies she has covered. Did she post about how she felt when a mom was killed in a car accident? What about the murder of a loving husband?
For a Journalist, how is this story any different? Why do you feel the need to make post after post about how this story is impacting you?
“One of the top rules of being a journalist is never becoming the story.” You should maybe not just write that, but put it into practice.
Just saying…
